How many rounds to take?

I HEARD it isn’t wise to take all the ammunition in a tank, because it has an increased risk of detonation, because some of the ammo is stored in other places besides the turret, and that is bad for suvivability

how can i know how many rounds to take, so that i only have one ammo rack, not 2 or more?

Best option is to first take about half the amount into test drive and holding down your x-ray button ( Default bound to; " o " ) to see what racks are filled and which ones aren’t. From there you can manually count how many rounds you want to remove or add.

Having a few extra in an extra rack can sometimes be a good option depending on what tank you are playing. If you for example are playing top tier vehicles that have blowout panels for the turret rack then having a couple of extra rounds as backup incase your turret rack gets hit and destroyed (but you survive) can be a good idea so that you aren’t completely without ammo after such a hit.

On the opposite end of the spectrum; many of the other tanks do not have any such protection and any extra rack filled is just another spot you can get instant destroyed by if it gets hit.

Autocannon tanks doesn’t matter much in most cases as they often have their ammo spread out to begin with, but taking a look in the x-ray (both in hangar and in test drive) can still be a good idea to see if you want to take less round or not as some have an extra magazine stored in the hull somewhere that almost never gets used and that can be removed if you want to increase survivability a little.

depends on the tank (and playstyle) really, if you find yourself always having a lot of ammo when you die, take less. If you keep running out, take more.
I usually run 11 to 16 main rounds then 2 or 3 HE/ HEAT for light tanks/open tops.

Well it depends. Do you plan on getting shot? If not then you can take full ammo and experience the consequences of your actions if you actually get shot.

If you do plan on getting shot, 20 rounds is pretty much the average ammo count that most vehicles can carry which is semi-protected

Its vehicle dependent.

Something lime Sherman with wet ammorack can take up to 30 shells without any decrease in survivability. Highly depends on the layout, here id advise you to consult wiki. The old wt wiki especially had entire dedicated section to ammoracks which wasnt ported over for whatever reason.

Now, as for MBTs, answer is “as much as your stowage protected by blow out panel can hold”.

For Leopard 2 thats 16 shells, for Abrams its much more.

As for T-series, fill carousel but dont take any reserve ammo.

Nearly full ammo every time, because I’m a big fan of Michael Bay’s work.

Jokes aside, the differences in survivability are hardly noticeable.

I would say about tree fiddy
