How long to build key skills?

I know it’s not an exact science. But still, how long might it take to build the key skills? (Positioning, Audio Identification, Aiming, Preaiming, etc)

And how can I learn the skills without building bad habits?

It depends on each person. Some people (esp. young) are born “Nintendo Warriors”. My 13 yr. old son is a better player than I am even though I have 30+ years on him.
Also how much experience you have in FPS video games because, for example, the way sound is treated in game has a lot more in common with dismounted shooter games than mechanized or even planes.
Basically the answer to your question is, just play. And try to enjoy it and skill will come.

Most of skill required in-game comes from repeating actions and adaptation to small changes, like a routine, others you have to actually build and maybe even have a talent for it, sounds stupid but some people is good at first person shooters where reaction time is a key factor and others don’t (like myself), so I stick for slower approach or games that just don’t require such, it’s not a task you have to complete, games nowadays is meant for entertainment and not to make it a work.

Figure things out, skill shall come. I am not an amazing player, I am just hitting an average K/D of 1, but just practice + trial and error. Play a SPAA, get killed by the spot orange smoke comes from, learn not to go where there’s orange smoke. See a KV-1, shoot in mantlet, nonpen, learn not to shoot there. :)

It should be mentioned that some skills may never come or will at least take a frustratingly long time. I’ve been playing since 2021 and idk if I have my headphones on backwards or what, but I suck at identifying the direction of engine noises

Ye Ik German tanks are fun Im at rank 5 for Germany and The Maus+Pzh2000+M48 is soo fun and Im only 70k from the Leo 1.

USSR is also vey fun at rank 5 with the 906 BMP-1 and Im getting the T54.
