How i close damn shadows

Guys, I was able to disable shadows in previous patches, but now I can’t, and it puts a serious load on my graphics card.

Does anyone know a solution to how to disable this freak thing?

Is it that you no longer have access to the setting for shadows or that the setting no longer changes anything in-game when you select different levels for it?

Even before this shadow patch, I could disable it via the config in the game files.

This feature is available in most games, but unfortunately, it was removed with the latest patch

Oh, then it likely wasn’t intended to be able to disable completely. It would likely give to much of an advantage to the player that has no shadows. But you can set Shadow quality to lowest and change “Global illumination” to lowest as well for the least noticeable and performance heavy shadows.

Though shadows usually aren’t that big of a performance eater (the can be in some cases and some games), what is your system and what are your general settings otherwise?

I tested in test drive and with max shadows and max global illumination i get around 140-145 fps. With both those settings to lowest i get around 160-165 fps. Which isn’t that much of a difference compared to the change in quality but still a bit (about 10-15% increase).
There might be other settings that will effect fps more for a smaller change in quality, like anti aliasing and draw distance.

As you said, it does provide an advantage, but when I set it to the lowest shadow quality, it looks ugly.

If anyone has experience with this change, I’d appreciate it if they could help.

Also, let’s not underestimate the 15% increase. Liquid coolers are used for overclocking to achieve this performance.

Any modification to the game that is aimed to provide an advantage over other players and isn’t accessible through the game itself could possibly be considered cheating.

Which is something to also consider when making any changes to the game that aren’t available through the in-game settings. I have no idea if removing shadows falls under that but it does sound dangerously close to it.

Oh, i’m not. I said compared to the change in quality. Shadows can change how the game looks by quite a bit while other settings would only effect the look in minor ways but still possibly have a positive effect on fps if those settings are lowered. So changing a couple of those settings instead (or as well) might give the same fps increase for less noticeable visual changes.

What a shadowy thread.
