Is it possible to switch to the MTI radar mode manually? Because it just activates randomly and the switch radar mode button does not work.
MTI only activates under a certain altitude. In general, you would prefer using normal track mode at higher altitudes since it’s a bit more precise. However at lower altitude you want to use the MTI mode that allows you to track through ground clutter. This usually works 90% of the time (unless you want to track a low flying aircraft from high altitude then you are fucked).
Now the thing is that to make the life of the pilot easier, Russia implemented an automatic switch from TRCK to MTI at a specific altitude (I believe 3km ?). And gaijin decided to introduce this mechanic in game. This comes at the cost that the pilot loses the ability to control the modes by itself
In this image I am at 700m and its not MTI? From my experience it randomly activates when at low alt
Edit: It activates when you pitch down! cant figure out how to cross text out on this though :(
Yeah, under a certain alt it will activate when you pitch down. I assume that it is supposed to switch when it detects a certain amount of ground clutter?
If i remember correctly, the mti mode works in a way where it wouldnt provide any benefit if used without ground clutter so there wasnt a need to have it turn on when pitching up.
You would normally prefer TRCK mode with no ground clutter, as it’s more precise in general. I believe that usually if MTI activates then it would be better to just use it. I guess there’s still some issue with keeping a target in search mode when switching since that resets the scope tho.
Nice you got it figured out ! I remember that at some point it did work in altitude only, but I guess because of the issue I mentioned above (looking down in TRACK mode does not work) they changed it to pitch/max ground clutter allowed then
it also has a altitude limit, but when you are below it you have to pitch down.
You have to be in a dive, if your nose at any point goes above the horizon Gaijin has decided no you don’t get MTI
In order for MTI to activate, target has to be within multipathing, so radar must be looking down.
Two uses of ~. ~If you use one on each side it doesn’t work.~ Make sure to use two.
