How do you use the Aim 120 on the F-4F KWS LV

So I recently aquired this plane, aswell as the complete other german Air tech tree I didn’t own previously during the anniversary sale, and I have come to a standstill point. I do not manage to figure out how to use the Aim 120 by myself so I extend my question here in the hope of getting some assistance in the matter.

While obviously being outmatched by any other plane at BR 13.3, I for the live of me can’t work out how the Aim 120 function despite reading anywhere that its apparently the best missile in the game and the only thing keeping the plane from going to a lower BR. The statcard says it can be launched at 80+ km but I have in 60 matches maybe hit a few singular enemy planes with it even when launched at under 2 to 10km, and even then it prefers to sometimes just miss anything or fly directly into allied planes.

As I have played the MIG 29 in the german tech tree, both of them, I hoped that the aim 120 would be an even better R27 ER or at least similar in the way it fires and turns but that does not seem to be the case so I am a little bit loss on how to fly this plane since it so far has brought me little enjoyment.

So would anyone be able to help me? I play on Console if that matters.

you stay low, pop up, lock, shoot, kill, gtfo.
its not that hard and you can be quite successful
do not engage in dogfights
do not get too close

Use TWS/TWS HDN (depending on what you have). You don’t need any other mode of radar when using Aim120.

If you have any experience with missile ranges, you should know that “80km” refers to ideal conditions, which is basically a Mach 1.2+ launch at 10’000m altitude to a target going straight at it at the same altitude.

The actual effective range in Air RB is about 30km, and from deck we’re closer to 20-25.

Don’t shoot at a target who is already in notch or close to a notching position.
Don’t shoot at a target going away if he’s more than 7-8 km from you.
Don’t shoot at a target who’s already multipathing (flying at less than 60m from the ground)

The best use case of the Fox3 are sub 15km launch on a target going your way, because they won’t have the time to dodge. Lock from TWS (or with HMD), fire, immediately turn to defend against incoming missiles.

Have fun, forget about being useful, you have an excuse not to. You can dogfight, but for a very short time, forget about chaffing, don’t play it as a usual top tier plane. If you’ll try having fun - you’ll get it.

completely disagree.
use ACM normal mode only… the aircraft’s performance isnt good enough to win a bvr match against an f-15 or something comparable

TWS give much better situational awareness.

You don’t need any other scanning mode besides HMD for locking.

The F-4F doesn’t have HMD

What the heck.
It’s even worse than I thought.

It doesnt have it. I essentially need to use my nose to aim anything which is expectably hard when any other plane in the br does not have to do so
