How do tandem heat charges work in this game?

So i have been doing some testing with the Spike and ADATS missile on Russian tanks (both having the same 900mm of pen on the stat card put only the Spike is tandem) and i have noticed that they both behave exactly the same when it comes to penetration behind era, when aiming at a certain spot they show the same “effective thickness”, if the angle and spot is more that 900mm they wont penetrate, and if its less they will, so what’s the tandem charge doing here? do tandem charges only work against non “heavy” Russian era? Or is this Gaijin not knowing how to model it correctly?

(Also same goes for tow-2/2A)

Tandem charges are bugged in protection analysis (providing no advantage over regular ATGMs), but work fine in game. You can use the test drive maps or custom missions to see for yourself.

Probably work like 2 sequential hits, I mean that’s kinda what happens IRL too, that would explain why it doesn’t work on the protection analysis.

@Aegis270 Then why cant the tow-2a go through the ufp of the t-90 in the test drive? the ufp without era has about 550mm effective thickness against heat, and the tow-2a has 800mm of penetration, if the first charge detonates the era (and doesn’t do some spaghetti code percent reduction in era effectiveness like i think it’s modeled) then the tow should go through

Not really sure of the details, I just know that tandem charges do reduce the effectiveness of ERA. I don’t have any vehicles with TOW-2As to double check, but I know the BMP-3’s missile can UFP a M60 TTS despite protection analysis saying it can’t, while the very similar but non-tandem Type 89’s missile also cannot.

Tandem warheads melt through ERA like a hot knife through butter. You can take vehicles like the AFT09 and ZT3A2 to top-tier and they’ll still nuke everything. Meanwhile vehicles like the Mephisto quickly become obsolete at higher BRs.

TOW-2A works just fine ingame. Btw.
