How do I survive longer?

Hello!
So I’ve basically discovered a youtuber named cavenub which is a very good player because he really often makes shocking scores and gets nukes. I’ve been playing war thunder for a long time now, I’m like 95 level and I know many things about the game. I also know many weakspots and etc. My dream and goal was always just to score the nuke in the game. It never happend… yet. My basic problem is that I can get like 2000 Spawn Points and the match will end or I won’t be able to get more. So my simple question is, how can I become better at the game? How can I survive longer? How do I learn more and more to be better and better? How can I avoid getting killed by suprise? Does it depends on a over powered positioning?

Your level doesn’t reflect your skill level. Just keep on attention, rises the ‘Other player’s engine volume’ to the maximum and ‘My engine volume’ to mininum and everything else on minimum, ‘Speech and FMV volume’ and ‘Voice chat warning’ is optional; If you want to entertain yourself with a podcast or music on the background, try to match with the ‘Master volume’ of the game in a way it doesn’t distract you from vehicle engine noises.

On the gameplay, doesn’t matter the vehicle you pick, always keep a more defensive and conservative gameplay style. Just like Cavenub, is a great example to follow, he or she keeps a more conservative gameplay style unless he or she is confident of what the situation he or she are in and what the vehicle he or she picked up, sames applies to any other player, otherwise, keep it more slow, don’t rush and try not to engage on targets that can shoot you back,

In a situation where you’re in a ambusher position and there are a line of vehicles coming and you have full vision of the targets but they don’t have of you, get the one who people won’t notice its death, if you pick the first one, is the same of saying “Hey, I’m here!” In summary, keep it low, don’t rush and prefer less used ways and positions, where the enemy doesn’t except a vehicle to be in.

Alright, I really appreciate your response, I’ve obviously used the engine sounds tips, but the problem relies on my gameplay. I’ve got a couple more quick questions tho. How can I make sure that I will shoot first? How can I avoid getting spotted and getting shot from the side or behind? How can I peak my spot to kill someone and avoid getting killed first? Does the ideal position/spot matter or should I just position myself anywhere behind a cover?

Don’t be shy on asking.

This is all about your attention. You can easily ‘peak’ someone by looking at its cannon direction and if you can easily shoot and retreat with not much issue like aiming for weakspots, those works great against light vehicles, both with and against. There’s no really a ‘formula’ to how can I not get spotted and so on, as I mentioned keep it low, but what I mean by that? Don’t randomly shoots your machine gun or waste ammo on air. If you have the possibility, flank, even. But don’t do that wide flank, you’ll be wasting time and probably dying right after, this isn’t exclusivity to a certain people.

In a sniping position, the spot you pick matters, maps like Campania and European Province, ambush is the best way to accquire a target, as people tend to move into areas that the close combat is ‘unevitable’. On this case you should prefer for buildings where your back and sides are not exposed. And also the tools you have, if you have optic rangefinder for example at 7.7 you’re in a advantage position over others in larger maps, same to 8.7 light tanks where you have access to scout drones which is a huge advantage and can help a lot your team and yourself knowing the position the enemy has taken and adapting yourself to that situation.

I’ve forgot to mention, if you know someone is trying to ambush you, just retreat and take another path, if you have, everytime you engage multiple targets and with success, retreat using smoke grenades as cover, they can help a lot on this subject.

Okay okay, thank you very much for your tips and answers. I will try to be more defensive now, make more confident steps and follow your tips. I am currently playing China Tier V so I hope there will be more “balanced” machines there, that will allow me to quickly kill people. If you have any more tips for the subject I would highly appreciate them.

90% of my deaths are overextending, i’m impatient, and sometimes it leads to nukes, sometimes you die after 2 kills. Just don’t overextend too much, and try to flank. Fox is great for nukes too.

Kills don’t always equate to obtaining nukes. It helps, but I’ve gotten a few from when the majority of my points came from capping points, critical hits, repairing others, scouting and kill assists. It all adds up.

The right type of match also helps, such as a Battle map as it usually a longer battle…unless it’s one of those shitty Gaijin layouts that the other team can rush and cap.

Another option is roll your light tank first and wait a bit in the match to roll your heavy or better tank. Most players will of used up their best tanks and are now into other tanks such as SPAAs (depends on type and BR whether these can be a real threat).

russian tansk in ww2 dont have smoke lauchers -lol 1-0 to 4.3 tr34-85

Levels don’t mean much. It more or less depends on the time you played the game.
If anything i would say take it slow if you know the rest of the team is behind slow your progress.

I have no clue what you just said. Please rephrase it into something more coherent. Thank you.

Thank you guys for every response, I will make sure to read them all.

Just try to learn as much as you can from watching how people play. This game is not very forgiving, so don’t get too annoyed when it does not go ur way. But I am happy you are trying to learn.

It can be hard to see the difference between your own mistakes and something that was inevitable. So try to look at why you died with a grain of salt and try to decide if you could actually have done much differently to prevent it. Which honestly will not have an answer quite often, Because that game can just be so random and unforgiving.

The thing is that I really try to do it, but very often I simply just don’t know what can I improve. Every game is different and sometimes I have to look at the place where I died and sometimes there is no one there. I try to make general tips from my deaths but they are very specific.

Additionally, I wanted to watch replays but sometimes I cannot see my enemy because of “Unknown Location”. Different players, have different playstyles.

It’s just not that easy, I always even when I am sure that I can go forward to the next cover, I just simply get surprised from somewhere. Someone, peaked a corner or a rock and I’m dead.

Hey! Basically I would like to provide you with some clips from my gameplay and I would appreciate the reply that will give me general tips about them.

  1. Welp - Clipped with Medal.tv
On this clip, I saw a enemy tank with long barrel (probably a howitzer with no armor) so I’ve decided that I would shoot any try to get rid of him, instead of him getting rid of me. To my suprise, he was angled and I did not penetrate him. At that moment, enemy Bkan just peaked me and had an easy shot.

  2. Uh - Clipped with Medal.tv
On the second clip, while I was watching my surrounding. I was sure that T-44 was watching what was in front of me, sadly he did not. It’s hard for me to see out of the corner of my eye that there is a tank in front of me so I had no real time to react and that’s how I stupidly die.

  3. He was faster - Clipped with Medal.tv
On the third and last clip, I was at the capture point previously watching the enemy spawn for any tanks coming my way. I realized that there was also someone on the point, I rotated and basically tried to get him but he was simply faster and disabled me. If there was no teammate, I would be surely dead. I’m glad that I have survived that.

All of the clips were made in the same game. This is basically one of my worst matches. My death reason is simply stupid and I would like you to elaborate more on that, and help me avoid these actions as well as give me some general tips.

Additionally, I will post 2 more clips, that I would like you to see.

  1. He got me - Clipped with Medal.tv
I saw an enemy tank behind a hill, when I peaked at him, he also saw me. We were looking at eachother and both made a shot. Later on, he reloaded faster than I did and was able to give me another shot.

  2. I can't do anything - Clipped with Medal.tv
I was searching the terrain to get some flanking kill. I found one, shot him once and then received 2 more shots from the side and the front, fully disabling my vehicle.

By the way, later on that game, one of the enemies got 4,1k and dropped a nuke…

  1. This is what I’ve mentioned on the engine sound, you can clearly hear the Bkan 1C and the Type 99. On this situation the better you could do was going forward, trying to push the Bkan 1C further back and eventually holding it enough for your ally by your right side on the main road support you. Also, when you make those mistaken shots, always retreat.

  2. By the 00:05 to 00:07 you could spot the Tiger II (P), on this case I think you were looking for flankers. Keep your eyes on the minimap too, knowing what position your teammates has taken can be helpful to not make useless actions. Also, always use binoculars, maybe it’s just applies to me as I can’t play the game in full resolution so most vehicles always get pixelated and I can’t catch the difference between a bush and a tank, but keep that in mind, even in medium range maps like Poland can be useful.

  3. On this clip you couldn’t do better, I’m not trying to be mean, fortunately you could spot and scout it before it was destroyed by a allied, I would probably be dead. On maps like these where the enemy still on the offensive position, I ignore capture points just when I know it’s safe to go to one, usually I pick one single vehicle for a match, it’s natural for me to try to keep the most defensive as possible unless I know my vehicle have some advantage, on this case, the Marder 1A- could easily destroy you with the MILAN ATGM or with some struggle with the Rh202 auto cannon, well, because he was confident and probably knew that he had advantage over a M18 GMC;

  4. Instead of driving straight to the enemy when you know that he’s there, use some camera tricks like trying to peak the camera over a obstacle to try to have a better look at the enemy, instead of moving your vehicle. On this case, as you lost the Loader and the Commander, despite similar vehicles, naturally you would have a slower reload.

  5. On this clip, the problem is the position you had take, considering the enemy, in both spawns, had clear vision of you, this was the mistake, if you had took the same position of the guy at C4, you would have full cover from the B6 spawn and clear vision from the C7 spawn. As I’ve mentioned previously, your position also matters, and you haven’t take in consideration the conservative gameplay style, you just rushed up a open position with no allied support.

And don’t think on the Nuke, the less you think “I need to get it, I have less than 1000 from a Nuke.” the close you’ll be from one, don’t put this as a objective but as a reward from your performance in that match.

Actually like 1 hour ago I completed a match where I’ve had 2476 Spawn Points… This gave me a stroke, but it does mean that I’m closer and closer tho.
