I just unlocked the Ouragan from the French tree and so far it’s going very badly. I’m coping that it’s just me but it seems to me that I have worth climb, acceleration, turn rate and retention than everyone I face… Do I play it completely wrong or is it actually a terrible jet?
The Ouragan’s main strenghts would be it’s turnrate and energy retention with a pretty good top speed too. The climbrate would be the biggest weakness, especially when stock. Make sure to always keep some energy to be able to defend yourself, as if you go low and slow, regaining the speed necessary to dodge will take forever.

Take off, fly straight until you hit ~600kph, put it in a 10deg climb (15 if spaded and you feel like it) [preferably a little to the side], then go slam unsuspecting enemies

by “slam” do you mean boom and zoom or just fly around and wait for opportunities
If there’s a furball, pick off slow targets and boom and zoom. If you can get into an isolated 1v1 away from other enemies, do it.

Alright, also you said it had great turnrate but when I tried to dogfight people they usually seemed to turn quite faster than I did
Is there a “right” way of turning? Should I use flaps maybe?
this is too general for me to tell. What they were in, who was faster in the merge, what manouvers did you excecute?
If someone is slower, if you turn directly at him you will just shoot out in front of him with your speed. You can try going into a vertical spiral in such a case. There are also planes which do outturn you such as me 163s and planes that lose a lot of speed in turns that leads to them getting slower.

Well for example I faced some F-84Gs (a lot of them) and usually when I was behind them and they turned I struggled to keep my guns on them because they turned faster

F84G is a boat so i cannot explain. Probably because they were slower and you overshot or they energy trapped you

Generally I feel like stock grinding really starts mattering in early jets so I think it’s partially because you’re stock right now. You simply perform worse when the plane is worse, once you’re spaded it will play better. Good luck with the grind!

Looking back at it I probably didn’t take an optimal turn
I recommend using the steam game recording function. It’s dead simple to enable and it lets you instantly re-watch your plays for analysis.
