How did gaijin believe the HE could destroy crusiers hull?

This is the most stupid machinery I have ever seen, just 2-3 DD use HE could make the cruiser hull break, leak water, and no longer repair, same with the stupid armor mechanic that forces sea battles to look balanced and actually completely ruins the experience of sea battles with 60% of the crew left but only being able to forcibly abandon ship because of suffering a little HE

Replay or it didn’t happen.

Even battleships need 2 hits to destroy hull section on destroyer so I really really doubt that DD can destroy hull section of a cruiser which have more HP then DD hull section in just 2 hits when it isn´t possible by BB to a DD.

Now most of the crew members will be destroyed by HE, after suffering 5 hits. even the DD now can make really heavy damage to cruisers, HE now can destroy the cruisers armor and the hull together.

Still waiting a replay link

No need for that, you can just test it by yourself, It happens on RN Duca degli Abruzzi, I believe it is just because of the 30mm hull armor will suffer damage from the 5inch HE

Sure the Italian cruisers are weak - and I expect that yes, the 30mm external armour on the DdA will suffer from 5" HE fire - but it has 100mm inside that…

But that’s not your claim - your claim is, and I quote:

So replay or it didn’t happen.

Probably because the pure mass of the shell can destroy these, and keep in mind these shells are like bombs so most of the time when I played naval all my crew died instead of the ship

The question is, even the HE from DD can cause such huge damage on cruisers that doesn’t make sense.

I think the inside armor is not a part of hull armor, which means when the HE destroy the outside armor, it will make water leak

First hits at 2.19 damaged your external secondary guns, no penetration of armor… you eventually keel over at 9 minutes, having been hit pretty constantly for almost 7 minutes by Russian 130mm HE shells…

You can lie to yourself all you like I guess.

You can check how many DDs are shot at me, besides the miss and hit the different places, about 3 mins my hull armor disappeared, can’t be fixed anymore. Just stop at there, if I was moving, I would sink faster.

Now at least prove DD can use HE to destroy a cruiser, even with heavy armor

I have done some testing and while the Duca degli Abruzzi is really squishy but it is nowhere near the point you are making. It isn´t 2 hits but basically 2+ full salvos of DD HE from close range. While surely it could be incresed it still only prohibits repairs if the breach is created it doesn´t create breach by itself.

The amount of shells results to around 40 kg of TNT it isn´t much and it could be increased it isn´t that small amount either especially concentrated to one small section of the hull and there is historical examples where the HE shells were able to cripple cruiser even if it was mainly due to uncontrelabe fire created but I would say this is acceptable compromise.

Did you test it with the Soviet 130mm or US 5"?

US 5" I don’t have Soviets grinded out, but the difference in TNT equivalent isn’t that much and I can always recalculate it back. With US Sumner I need 2 full broadsides (but I didn’t count shell one by one) which is 3,2 x 6 x 2 = 38,4 for the Soviet Pr.56 it means it needs 38,4 / 3,83 / 4 = 2,5 salvos.

But as I said this doesn’t create breaches in reliable way and also isn’t reliable way how to kill a crew.

E: Just to explain the point about breaches, hull destruction doesn’t create leak/flooding by itself it just prevents the repair of it. The flooding need to be created by AP shell puncturing the hull under the water line.

Yeah thought as much.
There is quite a significant difference between the Soviet 130mm and the US 5"/38 - the Soviet weapon fires shells that are 8kg heavier 33.4 kg vs 25kg.

They don 't contain much more explosive, because they have to be heavily built to withstand the higher muzzle velocity - 3.58kg TNT equiv for Soviet vs 3.22 kg for USA.

Both have 36mm penetration at all ranges for the HE round, so they will always destroy the 30mm external armour.

The Game linked to is all Tashkent’s - so 6 guns per salvo vs 8, and a much slower rate of fire - but I’m only going from the Wiki and NavWeapons here so don’t have in0-game values for that.
