How can I stop my radar from locking missiles

Just as the title says, I am having a hell of a time using my radar on nearly every single radar wielding plane I have. The radar constantly locks incoming missiles instead of the larger and definitely more radar reflective aircraft.

Going into ACM is a game of radar off/on trying to lock a plane instead of the missiles everyone is slinging. I’ve died far too many times to count because my radar locks the incoming weapon rather than the aircraft that fired it. I can dodge their missile. That’s no problem. The issue is the 2 to 3 seconds it takes to unlock the radar and relock it on the plane because it decided it wanted to hit a guided bullet with a guided bullet. That moment of hesitation closes the window of time I have to dodge the incoming weapon.

Its simply infuriating during a grind. Does gaijin mean to tell us that on radar an F-14 firing a phoenix has a smaller radar return signature than the phoenix itself? I just don’t believe it.

How are your radar controls set up?

I don’t know what plane you are flying but in something like the F4S with the PDV mode selected if it’s closer to the top it’s probably traveling toward you at like 700-1000m/s. That is a missile. The icon on the radar target selector will be [ - ] something like that. Where a plane looks like [----] when selected.
If your selector is on a missile cycle to next target until you get a plane and then lock it up.
