How can I deal with a bmpt?

Imagine you have a BMP-T in front of you, with its turret aligned with the hull and looking straight at you. The hull, like that of the T-series, is its greatest weak point, but if it’s covered, where can you shoot it?

The vehicle has two weapons. If you shoot its missiles and destroy two, it still has two left, making it practically useless. Also, if the turret is not exactly at a 90-degree angle relative to the hull, the vehicle doesn’t get destroyed easily. On top of that, it’s sometimes hard to hit with the first shot, especially with APFSDS ammunition.

Even when using the protection map, the green zones don’t matter much. When testing some shots, they literally cause no damage: some kill a crew member and, if you’re lucky, damage a component without destroying it. It also has a crew of five and hard-to-reach modules, so even its weapons are not easy to knock out.

I only found one weak point in the middle of the hull that could work. However, it has two problems: the first is that slightly below that weak point there’s another almost invisible spot where the armor thickens considerably, which can easily nullify the shot (something that already happened to me before in another area of the chassis). The second is that if that part of the chassis is also covered, I have no other options to shoot other than the turret itself, which is already extremely resistant from every angle.

If it were a normal medium tank, it would be relatively easy to damage its breech, but with the BMP-T it’s very different. Since Gaijin doesn’t even want to properly fix this vehicle, I was hoping someone would explain how to deal with it under these circumstances, because it always ends up like this.

update: If it helps, I want to mention that I don’t even play in the top tier for the US. I only have and am using the HSTVL, the M1A1, and the squadron Abrams, but only the latter has almost all the upgrades, so I’m suffering terribly since all the matches are at the top tier, and the US is the nation that gaijin despise the most. -_- (I know some will deny this, but I don’t care, it won’t change anything.)

I say this because I saw that I was giving advice for top-tier Abrams, but I don’t have any of those. To make matters worse, most of the matches I play are bad, so the rewards are meager, and I don’t even have a premium account, so I’m nowhere near the first rank 8 Abrams. Even so, wish me luck so I can reach the top rank soon and put your advice into practice.

Actually, I wanted to take this opportunity to ask what you’d advise me to spend the 1500 Golden Eagles I have on. I bought them after selling an event vehicle. Should I use them or keep saving them? It’s worth mentioning that I only buy premium accounts during anniversary discounts, and I usually only buy the 90-day one, but that one costs around 2500 if I’m not mistaken. Even so, I don’t want to put any more money into this game because all it does is rob me, even if it’s just a little over $6 to buy the Eagles I’m missing.

Front aspect:

  • APFSDS into the LFP if visible
  • APFSDS into drivers hatch (can get volumetric funny’d)
  • Pop ammo via a shot into the turret (very low spall from the surrounding turret armor so you have to hit the ammo belt physically or use HE) and then while the ammo is cooking off push it, do be aware that the BMPT might still have missiles left over
  • (On Abrams 120mm) HEOR into the turret structure where the ammo belt is going towards the gun
  • Hit the missiles with dart or MG and hope for a detonation

Side aspect:

  • Centerline under the turret where the ammo stowage is

Rear aspect:

  • Just shoot anywhere center-ish so that the dart spalls post-engine pen to hit crew and ammo. Hitting the back off-center can lead to you having to doubletap it

Thanks, buddy. Now I really need to practice my aim a lot. They have very tough armor, so it’s going to take me even longer to unlock the upgrades…

When shooting from the side try to avoid relikt if possible, shoot below it to blow up the ammo

don’t shoot the parts where the grenade launcher ammo is if possible

That combined with fuel tanks has a tendency to eat up shots

Example:

Make sure it is set to impact fuze
This works best on the right turret belt (left if viewed from the BMPT’s front)

Thanks, I also thought about using heat because of its tendency to explode on impact, but there are situations where I simply don’t have the opportunity to change ammunition for various reasons. Even so, I try to use what I have on hand; I’ll try to practice.

A good few MBTs will have some resistance to the 30mm autocannon, especially at range where they can’t really aim for weakspots

So occasionally you can just ego peek a BMPT and you can kill them before their cannons have time to do any reasonably damage

The truth of the matter is, there is nothing we can do.

Actually, there is plenty we can do

How is this off-topic?

In this situation, there is not. Best you can manage is to delay: hope for the miniscule chance that the BMPT player gets taken out by an airstrike or engaged by a flanking teammate. You can do absolutely nothing to the BMPT.
The armor is completely impenetrable except for a few tiny, tiny spots that are incredibly inconsistent, and impossible to hit at range or at the slightest movement. The BMPT is looking at you, will fire at you with the cannons and ATGMs, and you will be dead in seconds. Even if you use HE shell on his turret, only one gun or one side’s ATGMs are taken out, and immediately returns fire with the other.

In most cases, you will be caught off guard and won’t have your hull immediately facing the BMPT, and will not even have time to aim before the BMPT destroys your vehicle with the gun. Even if you have your hull and turret at the absolute best angle, you are still penetrable by the ATGMs. Practically, there is nothing you can do.
This is exactly why the BMPT is so overpowered compared to even the best top tier tanks!

We don’t have time, we don’t have a chance, there is nothing we can do.

from my experience it has knocked out everything

lfp is pretty consistent to me, drivers port also tends to knock out all the important parts

you’d be dead in less than a second if an MBT shot you, kinda dumb point to make.

BMPT gets completely rolled by the best top tier tanks

Hell, the SEP V3’s lower front plate is completely immune to the ATGM

This proves nothing. In not a single instance is the situation where the BMPT is facing you, without its hull exposed.

You show a compilation of kills, but what you don’t show is the countless times you certainly died to a BMPT in that exact situation. In every single cherry-picked clip you chose to show, the BMPT is either:

  • Has the LFP exposed
  • Hull not even facing you
  • Engaging another enemy
It is completely irrelevant to this post, simply a cope video with no actual content shown.

None of the videos you show are relevant to this scenario. They simply show situations in which the player was lucky and caught a BMPT out in the open with its hull exposed, while purposefully hiding the times in which the hull was not exposed and the other player was destroyed.

In your dreams. In reality? Go to the protection analysis to test. You will find not a single spot is able to knock out all of the BMPT’s weapons.

Hello? Have you completely forgotten that in this situation, the LFP and hull is hidden? You have not even read the topic post, you are just rushing to defend the overpowered BMPT.

What I pointed out is that you will not have time to disable all the BMPT’s weapons before you are destroyed. Nor will you be able to rely on a teammate destroying the BMPT for you. You are bringing up something completely irrelevant to the discussion.

Complete lie. With equally skilled players, there is no possibility for the non-BMPT player to win in this scenario.

Irrelevant. M1A2 is easily taken out by giant turret ring weakspot. UFP is also penetrable by HEAT warhead.

There isn’t much you can do in close quarters against a BMPT who rushes you. Yes it has weakspots, but they are incredibly small and if you are with a 10.7-11.0 tank you have to pixel hunt and hope for RNG to favour you, which usually won’t.

I’ve had instances of a single BMPT rushing 2-3 tanks, and these just mow everyone while tanking shots from frontal and side aspects. The reactive plates just eat your common dart rounds and then there is volumetric bugs favouring it too.

It’s the T58 of top tier

Very recommended 🔥

I’ll do you one better

No idea what happened with the last shot but it’s funny
Keep in mind that knocking out the external ammo belt guarantees that the vertical drive is disabled, as far as I’ve seen this includes the missile stowage.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the missiles also just explode as well on occasion

I am explaining how to kill it
Also, there are aspects of the BMPT that should be nerfed and I am 100% advocating for those (external ammo rack)
Just because I am explaining how to kill it or that I don’t think it should go up does it mean I am 100% defending it and the state it is in.
The vehicle rn is almost balanced.
remove the external-internal ammo rack separation and I’m happy

In the same situation an MBT would kill you faster, you’re just singling out the BMPT because you don’t like it.

T58 is actually doing statistically better than the BMPT but barely anyone is complaining about it

Hull down BMPT:

Had to scrounge through all my clips (over 1k) to find it.
No idea what the M1 was thinking

I’m singling it out since I don’t like how it is overly hard to disable the BMPT when it is hull down. I mean, even with something like the AGS, you can shoot the breech and it is fine, but BMPT will just harass you forever (if you are hull down yourself) or absolutely terrorize you (if you are out of cover). If I react fast enough to the MBT, I can survive and force him to repair to engage me again. To a BMPT, it just turns around and keeps on shooting.

Well, that’s surprising. I never had the chance to do that, since I only have top tier China and France. And nothing I can do, or anyone other than US players can do. Even the M1A2T, it doesn’t have HE-OR.

Seems to be a feature unique to the abrams unfortunately
however you can still mostly disable their turret by shooting that spot with normal HE

@山_田_凉

Here’s an example that I got of how much damage a single HE shell can do.

The BMPT’s turret was disabled instantly and he had to run away and repair
unfortunately didn’t get to kill him

I’m not sure if we have been using a different forum or what, because I see people complaining about it all the time. And without fail, whenever someone is talking about the bmpt, someone will bring up the T58 being op (like you did there). Like ok? Nerf them both? How is that even an argument lol. One tank being OP is not a justification for another one being OP. But we know gaijin is going to take their sweet time doing anything like that because they are making a ton of money *cough cough* SU30MK2 SU30MKK dodging yet another BR change *cough cough*

That aside, being able to one tap BMPTs through the ammo belt is the sole reason I have started carrying more than like 3 rounds of HEAT. And not only carrying MPAT as well. I have since found out you can use it for some funny overpressure shenanigans on light tanks as well lol. Also I’ve heard that gaijin recently made it so that you can also (sometimes) kill BMPTs by shooting their missiles, but I haven’t really had the chance to test that because I’ve been more focused on my air grind. So that might be worth a try as well.
