How are you supposed to use the VK 30.02/Panthers in urban maps? The turret traverse is atrocious

I feel I do pretty well with my british tanks and did decently with the PzIVs. However, moving onto the panther line, I’ve been struggling whenever I roll a city map.

The lack of stabilizer, the non-existent turret traverse means I cannot push objectives as I have to de facto play like a tank-destroyer and aim with my hull if I want to get my turret on point in a reasonable amount of time… which is not exactly viable for taking corners.

Am I missing something?

And like, the objective needs to be pushed so just sitting back and camping isn’t entirely viable. Plus, short sightlines in a number of city maps near obj.

Are you using the early or late Panthers? The VK and Panther D are basically buffed up M10 GMCs, and should be used as such, while the Panther A and G have much better turret traverse (just a bit slower than the M4s and T-34s).

But IMHO, all Panthers aren’t really suited for urban combat due to their weak side armour, which makes rounding corners quite dangerous. The Tigers would be a better option in this case. Panthers do better in open/hilly terrain and sniping.

Early, tier 3.

Unfortunately, the only tanks I have are the panthers, the SPAAs and the heavy tank destroyer line. I havn’t even touched the tiger/pzIII line @.@.

I guess I should then. But until that point, is there anything I can do in case I get thrown into yet another urban map without much flanking opportunity?

Don’t need fast traverse if you keep all the enemy in front of you.

And if you are relying on it when charging forward and getting surrounded then you’re going to be disappointed in short order…

TLDR: play to the vehicle’s strength!

Not a lot, unfortunately, apart from utilising cover and map design, which you’re probably doing already. Some maps have long, narrow corridors (e.g. building cluster on far left side of Advance to the Rhine, road between A and B in Cargo Port) that you can snipe along or push through without exposing your sides. Also remember to use third person view to check corners before rounding them. The reverse speed of Panthers is atrocious, but side scraping can be attempted if necessary. If all else fails, stick with teammates and provide fire support from behind them, only stepping forward to force a breakthrough if necessary, and only if you have allies to cover your flanks.

Depends.

Cant speak for RB, but in AB use the VK like a mobile LT with half-good armor, it has the speed for that. Panther… not sure, given the higher BR. Stay back behind the main front and hug corners, and use your hull to traverse.

There’s not much you can do, just try to find a corridor to park in and don’t show your sides. If you need to turn around a corner you kinda need to plan it in advance so you can do a brake turn.

I’d recommend progressing through the game differently than you do. Stay at a single BR bracket until you’ve completely researched the next BR bracket’s vehicles. This might feel slow, but it allows you to have full lineups so you aren’t forced to use tanks that don’t match the map. It also allows you to have more tanks to use before returning to hanger, which is more fun for you and more useful for your team. Don’t be so anxious to move forward down the trees. The game does not get more fun as you go down, I promise.

Yeah, germany is weird past rank 2.
The only option are premium tanks captured from other nations.
