HMS Repulse: “Who Touches Me is Broken”!

can’t wait for a 19 knot nelson

given that hood can go around 32 knots irl when pushing but goes 30 knots in game

I tried, but Suno detected the Song as copyrighted work ;(

“The engine and transmission are also different, with the max speed of HMS Repulse being 28.4 knots (52.6 km/h).”

This appears to be based on the 6th of March, 1936 speed trials she underwent after completion of her refit in January of that year, but before she returned to full complement status on 14 April, 1936. This speed measurement is flawed, however, as it does not represent the full speed she achieved, only the median speed, and it is noted in the book “Battlecruiser Repulse; Detailed in the original builders plans” by John Roberts that Repulse “began to reduce power during the second run this result (28.36 knots) is slightly less than might have otherwise been the case.” (p.82)

There is little indication that Repulse actually lost speed in the refit as none of the changes affected her powerplant (p.82) “This was not a major reconstruction of the type which began with Warspite and Renown since Repulse retained her original machinery, main armament (including its primary fire control systems) and the minimal deck protection over her boiler rooms.” (p.82)

“Compensation for the increased weight (from the reconstruction of her superstructure) was obtained by the removal of the torpedo CT, the torpedo compartment, and the crushing tubes from the bulges.” (p.82) This demonstrates that, without increased weight and with nothing done to her machinery, Repulse should be capable of her as-built maximum speed of 31.73 knots at 119, 025 SHP. As theorised, the vessel was capable of 32.5 knots at 120, 000 SHP, though seems to have never been pushed to the speed in service. It is recorded that the vessel was capable of 29.5 knots at 100, 000 SHP, meaning the reduced speed given in the dev blog is even more spurious.

At least without the extra weight, repulse should actually have the correct draft 🤣

They are fun. I almost spaded my SMS Derfflinger and its ok. However, you have to avoid these full uptiers. I always join the match and keep checking the player tab to see what ships are spawned. As soon as I see Mutsu and other 7.0 BBs/BCs, I drop the game. I just leave and play something else for the next match. Then rinse and repeat until you get a good match. Its the only way to play these 6.x BR Dreadnoughts. A Mutsu salvo usualy detonates you with one hit, it would be pointless to play a 7.0 match.

Sad thing is, the Battle of Jutland ships could be crazy fun… if they faced each other. Instead, the extreme compression Gaijin actively refuses to fix forces then to face Scharnhorsts, Hoods, Mutsus, Amagis, etc; turning them merely into an obstacle to reach the only ships that can remotely face the latter.

Yeah, that would be good. Though it is kinda funny how Barham is gunna be way more tanky than Repulse.

Honestly, Repulse’s addition has made me discard the idea of grinding Britain lmao.

I was already hesitant because the grind towards Hood was so long…

And now, they got an additional 390,000 RP block of a significantly worse ship. Compared to Renown, not only has it weaker AAA- most importantly, its turtleback sloped decks are half as thin: 50.8mm instead of 101mm… so it’s basically a glass ship with 6x guns which, again, with proper decompression would be cool to have; but as it stands right now, it’s just an obstacle towards Hood.

Yeah… It is, such a shame and I fear this is it, all we are getting for a while. The promise for a new rank VI ship and then to drop the ball on what is overall, quite a downgrade, is a shame. We’ll have to wait and see if its better than Marlborough or not, but I think its gunna be close.

and thats not taking into account that Renown is missing HE-VT for her secondaries.

Why have you not enlisted in the royal navy already?

Too long and hard grind :’)

When I can afford it, hopefully in a few months, I’ll wallet-warrior my way through it, hahah.

yeah, I’m about to unlock rank 4 after I research the Arethusa, even the grind to rank 4 is awfully slow (probably not to help that I’m playing Arcade but I just can not get my head around why RB aiming is so un-necessarily hard would help if the range would actually update with the “Updating Range” meter), might get the Belfast later on when I get things like the Kent and Southampton,

Also the Arethusa looks like such an Over BR-ed hunk of shit, its just a straight up worse than a leander which itself being the same BR as the Liverpool seems off; less armour, less firepower, less AAA.
all for an extra torpedo per side (on much worse torps) and an extra Knot in speed? yeah, ill pass playing it

Belfast is pretty good, she has the post war refit armour increases and the 12x 6" with SAP shread most targets rather effeciently. Just wish it had torps.

But yeah, most cruisers are heavily compressed. Thats what happens when you try to fit the full range of light cruisers with 6x 6" guns and light armour all the way up to 8" heavy cruisers with decent armour into just 0.7 BRs

so ive heard, ive used the 6 inchers on the Liverpool and even only having 9 of them is great, 12 would be even better

Never really get kills with torps, I’ve got like 2 kills with torps out of the 263 naval kills I’ve got in the Liverpool, might have more idk they take such a long time to travel I may have forgotten I fired them
either way the 6 inch is definitely your main weapon

Every single time im in Belfast, I find myself in a spot where I could get a kill or maybe even multiple kills with a torp salvo. In London, Liverpool, etc that has Torps. Rarely do I use them.

Its a sods law thing.
