In 1940 she could only make 30 knots.

Though in real life this depended upon the sea conditions, sailing into a head sea when taking on the Scharnhorst for instance she could only make 24-26 knots. At 26 she was shipping green which poured into a hatch blown open by her own guns and the main batteries couldn’t be operated. Scharnhorst and the Gneisenau had lost their destroyer escort as they could only make 22 knots in the rough seas.

I’m sure Fischer’s original specification was for 35 feet of freeboard. Don’t have a reference, just stuff I’ve read over the years. Seems she sits a little below this but not much. She’s about 2 metres higher in the water than she should be when, given the increased weight of AAA and ammunition for such she should be even lower than her 1940 trim.

Well the major update’s out now - any sign of them bothering to fix any of the issues?

I don’t think I saw any mention of renown in changelog but didnt open the game either so no idea

It may be better or worse depending on how you interpret this change.

  • HMS Renown, HMS Hood — a bug that caused magazine charge hits to not cause a fatal explosion, but shell room hits to cause a fatal explosion, has been fixed.

Does this make it easier or more difficult to one shot it?

Easier. The codes for her magazine and shell rooms were flipped so that the magazine hit would not cause a fatal detonation before the update. Now this get fixed and the magazine which is located above shell rooms would be her fatal spot.

…They really still haven’t even given her the HE-VT other 4.5-inch guns get? Or 6crh?

The ONLY thing Gaijin seems to look at are game stats. I have a Renown and want it to be better. Therefore, I’m doing as poorly as possible in it, and any other Renown I see when playing other ships is a priority target.

It’s simply impossible to paly it “well”. I tried my best and could barely hit a K/D ratio of 4, while all of my other battleships are 5 at the very least with many of them around 10 or more.

I’m at 33 battles with 20 deaths and 94 kills, so I can do well with it. I still want it to be a “real” 7.0 ship. I know you do everything you can to fix the inaccuracies. Is there anything we, as players, can do?

Frankly speaking, not really except making the stats bad enough to get her down tiered. There’s a long list of ships awaiting to get fixed and since Renown just came by recently she’s far behind the queue atm. To me the most possible guess is that she’ll get down tiered first, then she might get her draft and armour fixed in the future which might make her too OP at her then present BR, and getting up tiered again.

Played her tonight and she was fairly brutal. My crew is bad on her, and I don’t have a lot of unlocks, but she’s a real chore to play at 7.0 regardless.

Her front magazines get destroyed so easily, and she just doesn’t have the fire power of the other ships at 7.0.

Accidentally got a “preview” of what if Renown’s draft getting fixed:




With correct draft, the ceiling of magazine would have been noticeably deeper and thus harder to hit within 8000 - 9000m. On the other hand however, she will be more vulnerable to flooding since the height of the belt over waterline will be also significantly reduced.
