HISTORY
HDMS Valkyrien was an protected cruiser built in Denmark at Orlogsværftet in Copenhagen. The project was started in 1886 and finished in 1888 when it was launched. This was at the time the largest ship in the Royal Danish Navy, and was heavily inspired by the Chilean cruiser Esmeralda (1883) which was built a few years before the HDMS Valkyrien.
The vessel hoist command in June 1890, and was used in a number of training/exercises the following years. In 1893, HDMS Valkyrien escorted the Danish royal yacht HDMS Dannebrog with guests for the current wedding of the Duke of York (grandson of the Danish king) with the princess Mary of Teck onboard, who later became the English royal couple! it was afterwards used in the wedding of the Norwegian royal couple, Prince Carl of Denmark and the English Princess Maud, and in 1896 it went back into its usual service. HDMS Valkyrie was sailed around the world, to several countries in Asia the following years in between exercises and training, and was upgraded several times.
In 1913, the 2x 38cm Torpedo Tubes located amidships was removed, and the two old 45 cm spotlights were changed to 2x 90 cm spotlights. In 1915 the ship had a major update, with nearly all its armament being changed to more modern weaponry. The two 210mm cannons were switched out with 2x 150mm cannons, the 6x 150mm cannons were changed to 6x 76mm cannons, the 4x 57mm cannons were reduced to 2x, and the 8x 37mm revolver cannons, 8mm machineguns were reduced to 2x 37mm revolver cannons.
The vessel also like many others, carry boats on deck, in this case two torpedo boats armed with various torpedoes and one or more cannons. These boats were used as landing crafts and for several other purposes. Data on these is hard to come by without proper sources, but they highly likely feature 37mm cannons. I believe they would work sort of like the launchable scout planes, but there are no features for these boats, so that is for another suggestion.
Although the ship, with its new solutions and design, compared to similar, old ships, it aged incredibly quickly, and therefore received very little operational service, as the ship was sold for scrapping as early as 1923.
