Grumman F-14D Super Tomcat - End of a Legendary Era

I mean I care enough to bring it to 14.0

I feel it has a personality tbh, and having irst and the best US radar till the F22 on the F14D makes it worth it more than just for the airframe

Technically even the B could carry the 9M, but we’ll see if it gets added after it was forwarded finally

Fair but the EFT, Rafale, Su 30 are here now and even more dominate in BVR and WVR than the F14D, it only outdoes them in missile launch range

Would be funny to see if theoretically aviable F-110-GE-429 would be here

It only shows the f18 but at the same time it doesn’t say only for the f18 anywhere in their I think they left out the f14 because they have already cancelled the program as that file was made in 2001 and like marvin group came out in 2016 saying it was designed for f14 and f18

Q.E.D.

At this point it’s not even likely to come before US AESA anyway unfortunately.

And it can pretty much be looked at as the F-15C/E radar with moderately longer range, but those are both considerably underperforming in that regard anyway.

Which don’t exist in-game

That is stretching reality far beyond what can be expected for AIM-120s. I would argue ACIMD/AIM-152 are more realistic than 9X for 14D

Retired too early

Nope, was never even an integration goal due to the F/A-18 already covering that role.

I think you might be right, but I have some hope that it’ll come by mid-2025.

It basically is the F-15E’s AN/APG-70 Radar mixed with the AWG-9s power, but instead of the processing power being used for AtG roles, it’s used to reduce notch susceptibility and long-range detection.

It will soon enough. Too many later planes rely on it.

Well, all Aim-9M launchers are compatible with the Aim-9X, so it’s not that far-fetched. Aim-152 is the real reality stretcher. It would be nice to have, but there’s zero chance.

Doesn’t matter. It was an upgrade to the bomb itself and required no software changes on the aircraft. If the aircraft can laze and is compatible with the JDAM, it can use the LJDAM.

This one was a stretch I must admit.

Launcher compatibility =/= weapons integration

Integration means carriage, jettison, and launch flight testing. You can’t even prove a 9X was hung as a mockup, let alone any of that.

I’m well aware of what it does. I’m saying the APG-70 already significantly underperforms in both maximum detection and max track range. I see no reason to assume they would model the APG-71 as anything other than a slight(5-10%) increase in those aspects. The IRST being unquestionably an IRST is frankly more important given the devs current stance on sensor fusion.

It does matter.

You don’t need integration. Aim-9Xs are backward compatible with planes that support the Aim-9M. The Aim-9X was in service at the time of the F-14D.

I think you’re misunderstanding. It’s not a derivative of the APG-70. It’s an evolution of the AWG-9. It shares the most commonality with the -70, but it’s not a variant.

The one misunderstanding things here is you.

well then? Explain how I’m misunderstanding.

You take the brains(computers) of the APG-70, the antenna of the APG-70(scaled up) and the digitization of the APG-70 then pair it to the power supply used by the AWG-9. yes, it’s definitely not a derivative. It definitely shares more in common with an analog radar…

Wdym “q.e.d” like it needed to be demonstrated?

As I just said, it’s the AWG-9, just digitalized.

You can say that about any radar’s antenna with the way you’re using it.

I said it has more commonality with the APG-70. However, it’s not based on the APG-70.

Also isn’t the awg9 X band?

You have no idea what you’re talking about

Well where are the sources to prove what you’re talking about? Can’t just say something and not prove at least one source

That literally goes the exact same for what he is saying you realize?

The difference is we know the APG-71 uses the components and specifically the computers from the APG-70 which is what a make a radar a radar, genius

Still no source. And no I don’t know everything about radars witch is why I want you give something of a source so I can see weather this facts from wiki or something more solid
