Ground RB Player Struggling with Air RB

I started playing arb after finishing the US ground tree but have run into a lot of trouble. I have been using the P-51-C, P-51 Mustang, and I’m about to get the P-47-D25, but things haven’t really been going my way. My aim isn’t all that great yet (understandably so) and I don’t feel like I’m horrible at evading enemies. At the start of matches, I climb until about 4-5k meters and then dive on players, but once I miss my first shots, I try to climb and get out of there but end up getting destroyed by other planes. My winrates are also abysmal sitting at sub-25 %. What can I do to improve, and what are some tips for the US tree?

Better way to extend with p51 after a missed boom and zoom is to shallow dive instead of climbing. You are the fastest plane at your br and once you get some distance you can go back to boom and zoom or climb. Also dont be afraid to dogfight a little in the p51c if you have speed, it has great performance.

And US teams are not great, even if you do well personally, your win rate will probably still be low.

Everything else is just practice.

Also, for p51 and i believe p47 as well, manual engine controls are very easy to set up and you basically get to wep forever. You just set radioators to 100 and wep nonstop with minimal additional drag. P51c especially is a monster, you actually have a good climb rate with wep on all the time.

Thanks for your help! I have read about mec before, but it looks a bit complicated for me right now, I’ll try and set it up, but I’m slowly running out of keys on my numless keyboard.

Defyn has some very good tutorials if you havn’t checked him out yet:

One thing I could advise is maybe giving the Naval aircraft line a try. The F4U-4 is a very versatile aircraft that can adapt to the situation much better than P-47s - it’s capable of dogfighting BF109s and holding its own quite well! The mustangs and the thunderbolts are not as adaptable which can lead to issues in ARB due to how snowbally the matches are forcing you to force an early advantage or else be outnumbered or have nothing left to do.

Also for the P-51 “Cannonstang.” That plane is a bit like russian aircraft: Struggles at high altitudes severely pretty bad (you lose a whole third of power-to-weight at 4km altitude! You have constant power until about 2.1km and then it start dropping)

On this site, you can plug in aircraft and see how they perform at various altitudes/speeds:

This can help you make decisions on how to escape and what tactics are viable. Some planes have non-linear drops too that you can exploit (The F4U-4 has better power-to-weight on WEP from sea level to 1.5 km than an a6m5 and gets a major advantage again starting at 4 km (they’re equalish at 3km))

Generally though - barring cases like the above example with the F4U-4 - your planes as a rule of thumb have worse power-to-weight ratios (and thus worse acceleration and climb) than your peers. However, U.S aircraft are also quite streamlined and don’t barely lose speed when flying straight. How you exploit this is you dive down and fly horizontally to create some distance from the enemy before entering a shallow climb. Even starting at equal speeds, the person pursuing you will probably end up losing more speed doing this than you do. This is probably why you die after your dives - you climb too sharply and lose a lot of speed for too little altitude gain.

Problem with the above though is the snowballing. You dive in, kill 1 foe and extend/climb away. By the time you’ve reset, your team will have either killed the rest or died. Only way to fix that is to fly in a squad.

I was planning on only researching the two fighter lines and the bomber line since I don’t need more planes researched than that. What other planes do you recommend?

I just got the P-47D-25 and I’m struggling I have switched back to the P-51C since I do a lot better in that.

The problem I have when diving is that I gain way too much speed (IMO) when I reach the enemy ill usually sit at around 700 kph, and I cannot control the plane so some simple jinks from the enemy and I miss.

ty for the help.
