Always be honest(no matter what) speak to them like you are talking to a friend.
Be encouraging and show them you support them . . . no matter what it is.
Admit when you are wrong or make a mistake, and most importantly . . . . be there . . . .
Oh and don’t be afraid to say . . . “I dunno” . . . no shame in that
(But if you have to come up with something, I highly recommend reading a LOT
of Calvin and Hobbes[the Dad has some true gems you can steal!!])

I found this post heartbreaking, in a way. Congratulations to OP, and best wishes! Becoming s parent is one of the biggest and best things that can happen to someone who wanted it.
In my case, whatever life may have in store for me, I hope it will never be as detrimental to my free time as to not leave at least 1-2 hours of War Thunder every day.
I’ve been here since I was 14, and it’s the only game I’ve ever played on a practically daily basis and consistently for 12 years now. I couldn’t imagine stopping playing it until its servers were shut down.

Good luck! I have been playing for 13 years, and now I am also a father. My child watches me play this game, and my wife doesn’t object to me playing games because she knows it’s one of my few hobbies,
