Good Russian Turn fighters?

I’ve started to crack down on the grind and reached around late rank 2 and early rank 3 of the Soviet Tech tree, but what I’ve noticed are that most fighters like the Yak-7B, LaGG-3-66 etc. are absolute trash when going up against American or Japanese planes, they turn like boats and stall easily, even when trying to get a hostile aircraft under you, it still turns horribly. Got any tips? what should I change in my gameplay or strategy?

Try using more energy tactics like BnZ

Also, just don’t turn with Japanese aircraft in general…

I watched your last 2 replays in Air RB - you need to invest way more time in learning what your planes can do - and what they can’t do. Same as what enemies are capable of.

  • In your last match you get caught above 4 km in a Yak-7b by a P-39 with a severe energy advantage and you got BnZ to death. In the match before you got energy trapped by a Ki-108 (also way above 4 km) and got sprayed down in your LaGG-3.

In other words:

You picked the wrong opponents way outside the best performance range of your aircraft and fought whilst accepting their terms - a recipe for getting killed.

  • Imho you need to improve you situational awareness in general and focus on fighting on your terms.
  • There is nothing wrong with retreating if you can’t win a certain situation - but in order to assess the right point in time to disengage you need to be aware of your surroundings; correct decision making relies on experience and you have less than 200 battles in total…

In opposition to previous posts:

  1. The Yak-3s at 4.0 and 4.3 are severely undertiered, based on flight performance a BR of 4.7 would be more than adequate. But even if the plane performance will help you get away with basic mistakes - the plane won’t solve your general issues as outlined above. Btw: Things like a Pyoerremski clap Yak-3s easily.
  2. Russian planes in general excel not with BnZ tactics due to their very low rip speed (except stuff like the I-185s). Even energy trapping with a plane with very good energy retention like a Yak-3 or La-7 depends mainly on the quality of your opponents.

As a summary:

I would use your Yak-1B - go upfront to yt and go to DEFYNs channel. I am quite sure i saw a vid about this plane there; in addition you find a lot of rather good tutorials.

Have a good one!

Yak-9s always scare me a little even in the Spitfire

I like the LA-7, LA-5FN, and Golachev’s Yak-9M.
