HISTORY
The GMC CCKW-353 was introduced into the Danish Armed Forces as part of the American Armed Forces Aid in the 1950s. The vehicle was supplied to units throughout the Danish Armed Forces, but primarily to the Army, as a replacement for many of the earlier British/American supplied 2.5 and 3 ton vehicles such as Austin, Bedford, Ford, Chevrolet and others. This was a very versatile vehicle that suited many purposes and had good off-road capabilities. It was used by the Danish Armed Forces for the transport of supplies, a trade fair vehicle, as a fuel vehicle, a radio vehicle and much more.
In 1939, the American Congress “invited” the American truck manufacturers to submit a bid for a 2 ½ ton 6 x 6 vehicle. Some of the requirements for this vehicle were that it should be suitable for everything possible, including an all-round truck, and that it had to be cheap, easy and quick to produce. Of the solutions offered, the GMC ACKWX-353 was chosen, which was a further developed model of the civilian ACX-353, and during 1940, 2,466 trucks were produced for delivery to the American forces. The GMC 353 is delivered with a closed cab a la the civilian version (on models until 1942) and in an open military version. This vehicle remained in Danish service until the mid-1970s!
The vehicle did in Danish service come in many shapes and forms, and a smaller amount were used by the vehicle was along with other brands/different vehicles at this time, also used with a 12.7mm quadrilateral cannon of the anti-aircraft battery, for use in close range anti air defence by the artillery units. The vehicle can be seen with the cannon mounted in the image above, and it can be seen in the image below with some minor differences such as a tarp on the side guards and hauling a trailer.
IN GAME
This is quite similar to the M16 we have in game located in the American techtree, however this is much more mobile so it might be valid for a br of 3.0. It would be a solid addition to the SPAA line in either a subtree or an independent Norwegian & Danish techtree.
