Welp, 120C-5 was buffed on the dev server so I guess Derby is now officially the worst ARH missile in the game?
it is, but Derby is so fun to play with in close range
If only it actually pulled 40G… Only pulls 28G at its peak
So my prediction came right after developers have implemented the Derby-ER buff report:
Derby-ER underperforming in kinetic range // Gaijin.net // Issues
The Derby-ER now outranges the AIM-120D while still enjoying much more maneuverability. It will be the outright best air to air missile in the game if added to an aircraft.
Thanks to @serasа for his test video.
Watching this makes me realize how much ramjet missiles are gonna destroy the game when they eventually come.
It’s basically like a second pulse that’s essentially lasting for like a minute straight
You could imagine it more like 4-6 different pulses, and downing other aircraft before they can even get their first missile off.
Also, I forgot to mention. The current Derby missile also received buff changes.
Derby old versus new, thanks to serasa
Tiny but still very welcome buff
Worse at short range but better for long range. IMO side grade
Wouldn’t even call it worse, worse initial accel means that it can turn tighter
The sufa should get both derby like the barak D as well.
i think it will surprise a lot of people, idk why most people think ramjet missiles will have a worse ttk under relatively big ranges (for war thunder arb), like 60-50km
It went from 1,100m/s to 1,400m/s delta v. I wouldn’t call it a tiny buff, as it also did this with a massive drag reduction.
In the video you posted it only had ~200kph advantage for the most of the time
It’s not a tighter circle sadly, but will complete a circle faster, or at least get further through the turn faster. On top of that it comes out with more speed and now holds its speed better. Just barely a less tighter turn, in exchange for all the improvements.
It’s hardly worse in turning circle, but much better in general in everything else (note the angle it’s achieved at the end)
i don’t understand why statshark is weird for the derby specifically, when i do the same test in game the derby is worse off the rail than an aam-4, and for some reason the new derby is slightly better in game
derby (new) and old derby in game
Spoiler

derby and aam-4
Spoiler

Well maybe because not pulling an excessively tight circle there like in the one I posted, idk different parameters yield different results though. And it not pulling as much as the AAM-4 isn’t surprising as that things a close range beast (g-pull doesn’t matter, it has a ton of fun AOA and starts pulling really fast off the rail)
the new derby still pulls more than the old one in different conditions from what i tested
i mentioned the aam-4 just to show that statshark is being weird for the derby model and that the same could be happening with the new model
