The existence of an “early” aircraft variant doesn’t exactly mean there’s gonna be a “late” one later down the line. That tagline is used exclusively as a way to keep an aircraft firmly rooted in a specific era, with specific weapons. The F-14A we currently have is representing its first cruise, hence the AIM-9H and only AIM-7F (as well as AIM-54A), despite the fact that F-14As served well into the early 2000s and absolutely had access to the latest AIM-9M, AIM-7M, and AIM-54C.
F-15s having 9Ms is significantly better than the 9Ls the F-14 has, this is a false statement.
It does significantly matter since lack of all aspect pd impacts flexibility, meaning that a cold target will likely escape any missile you shoot. The F-15 has a much better chance of killing cold targets, while having slightly better head on performance at the same time.
Technically true, but F-14s and Su-27s have a harder time flaring IR missiles due to their size, not as much due to engine heat.
From what I’ve heard, AIM-120 was only test fired from F-14A.
However, the F-14D was still supposed to be AMRAAM compatible both in mountings and it’s systems, and would have mounted them too if it weren’t for budget restrictions.
So giving it AIM-120 is not a big stretch at all, in my humble opinion.
There is precedent for this with aircraft like Yak-141.
Glad you agree with me. Though not sure why you quoted me saying the airframe performance was similar, rather than whoever stated 9Ms and 9Ls were similar.
You said “The same WVR”, which goes beyond just dogfighting.
The Mig-29 (9-13/12) never carried the R-73 until late upgrades. The F-14B IS the upgrade that carried the AIM-9M. Different situation.
What would make the F/A-18A worth 12.7? its a supersonic A-7E with sparrows, that can turn its maybe worth 11.7 at most, considering it can’t use AMRAAMs, lacks a laser designator and HMD.
Mig-29 had R-73 support from the start, it just also had R-60 backwards compatibility as well, unlike Su-27.
On top of that, it’s just better to wait for F-14D since it’d be the same BR as a 9M F-14B anyway unless it got AMRAAMs.
@tripod2008 6x 9Ms with 2x Sparrows.
Even with 9Ls only that’s 12.0.
Its not otherwise it would not be able to carry AIM-9Ds, and there are also various issues with the 3d model (Wing fence count, Beaver tail fairing modification, Nose probe AoA probe, lack of Nose IRSTS blister, etc.) that make it a Block 130 Airframe, not a block -70 as it would need to be.
the MiG-29 IRL never carried R-60M, they only carried R-73
You sure?
He stopped preflaring when you launched that missile, after he realized his mistakes it was too late.
İf he was constantly pre flaring that R-73 most likely wouldnt hit him.
Simple. Just add the F14D with the AN/APG 71, Aim 120A and aim 9m, that’s it
if we are going to say add it because they had them IRL
Give Harrier GR.3 and Jaguar GR.1 and GR.1A AIM 9Ls and AIM-9Li if it could carry it
Give every Tornado the AIM-9Li
Give FGR.2 AIM-9L (this one isn’t actually a bad idea but gaijin just wants to have a britian tax)
Give teh Tornado F.3 and ADV ASRAAM and AMRAAM
Just give everything Fox-3s
Give all high tier attackers and bombers a nuclear bomb for air RB
give the AIM-9X and AIM-120D to the F-16C
give AIM-9G/J (idk what one they carried) to the G.91Y series
give any aircraft 11.0+ all aspect missiles
my point is just cause it can doesnt mean it should, F-14B is a good plane where it is
if you want an AIM-9M F-14 with until the F-14D
my mistake i was just repeating something i read on the forums over a year ago
but the difference between the MiG-29 entering service and R-73 formally enetering service is 1 year and its likely very few MiG-29s but the R-73 was allegedly operational in 1982 a year before the MiG-29 so very few would’ve been carried on MiG-29s in service
Which is a fair statement, a common criticism with the MiG-29 not getting R-73s in game was basically doubling the grind just for missiles.
their size and the fact their single drop countermeasures (F-14B not really thanks BOL)
true, especcially when you consider the only advantage the SMT has for air to air purposes is the Radar R-73s and 27ETs, the radar is a nice upgrade, but the flight performance is just significantly worse. MiG-29 (9.13) with everything would bassically be a MiG-29G
F-14C June 2024
F-14D June 2025
F-14E June 2026
Calling it now.
The C stands for Cancelled.
