I actually was looking forward to a boat. Just not a useless one 😞 ffs.
what a boring way to begin the week, send them sl crates gaijin.
Whoever made this camo managed to turn a historical one into a Twitch drop looking ah neon-fantasy monstrosity.
Hopefully its just the loading screen and it wont look like that in-game
Wasted event
SKR-7 exists for free if you want to do coastal missions for the BP and if you want to unironically play "high’ tier coastal then you probably should see a doctor
Called it:
Not even a gap filler, when Japan already has 4 BR 3.3 frigates, including one GE premium, sadly.
You forgot to mention that IJN Shisaka is a Hiburi-class escort ship. In fact, we already have Syonan in the Japanese tech tree, and IJN Shisaka will be very similar to it.
I believe this description was written around 2022, because it doesn’t really make sense in 2025. Syonan used to be a very solid vessel a few years ago, before major changes to HE shell mechanics in Naval and the introduction of many rapid-firing frigates that quickly became the meta.
Depth charges have never really been useful, so their number is irrelevant in practice. As for the 25 mm guns - they definitely don’t make it a “great anti-air ship” anymore. In recent years, HE-VT shells have become the dominant choice for anti-aircraft defense, and this ship most likely won’t have them. And no, HE-TF is not the same as HE-VT.
Overall, I would recommend playing Syonan about 3 years ago, back then it was a very good ship. But in the current meta, there are much better options available.
Since I cant see it anywhere in the devblog, can we expect the return of SL lootboxes for this event?
No
Wait for the August event
Dont take it personally but id much rather get confirmation from Stona ;)
Syonan has been still regularly #1 or #2 on K/D in the 3.3 boat stats on Statshark. Only real competition for the top spot is Surprise/Spey. (And Japan is the #4 nation in popularity for naval.) But yeah, looks pretty pointless if you already have a Syonan.
You will not receive confirmation/denial on such questions, sorry.
I would choose Isuzu over Syonan every time. And Isuzu can actually be called great anti-air vessel, with its HE-VT shells. It’s also much easier to get the score with rapid-firing guns on Isuzu.
Yes, I know it’s one step higher in BR, but 3.3 already faces 4.3 quite often anyway. The compression in Naval is just crazy. I don’t even recommend playing this BR area (3.3-3.7). It’s much better to stick to 4.0-4.3 vessels. And at 4.0 you have something like JDS Ayanami (DD-103) with even more rapid-firing guns. It’s a much better choice.
Also, keep in mind that IJN Shisaka is an event vehicle only - it won’t receive premium bonuses. If it were a premium, then maybe it would be worth it for researching the tech tree.
Oh well, what can one do. Thanks for the reply anyway.
Is this an out-of-season April fools joke? Like, for how many months without naval event, bad state of current naval battles, we get… a frigate. In clown-ish sci-fi camo. For 600k points for a coupon.
Another fishing boat with guns.
tbh no coastal or bluewater ship will make naval more enjoyable than it is, neither will it stop Gaijin from spawning two teams facing each other in a line 8km from each other…etc
If making BP points is all you look for then yeah the SKR-7 is it, but for squidron frigates the SKR Karl Marx is kinda surprisingly on pair & doesn’t suffer from a horrendous ready rack that has now quite frankly gimped the former ship.
Well these vessels are what I play mostly, basically a masochist at this point with me playing some of the worst bloody ships in game to some of the most fearsome (the Frigate USS Hoquiam PF-5 is horrible while the Destroyer JDS Ayanami DD-103 is overshadowed yet incredibly OP due to how she’s represented in game).
Just need subs
Its a laugh everytime a devblog meantions this. The jap 25mm was one of the worst AAs mounted on any ww2 ship…
