Gerpard round capacity

In the Gerpard’s service was it only able to carry 40 rounds of DM23 or is this just gaijin balancing the Gepard

It’s “balancing”. Technically the Gepard can use full APDS belts.

yes, because its an anti air, the APDS is in the secondary belt

there is a AA APDS but it has less pen than the DM23

It’s extremely expensive and impractical to prepare a full ammo rack of APDS, alongside the fact that the Bundeswehr and other 35mm oerlikon operators are not running n gunning with their SPAAGs.

APDS exists simply as a dual-feed self defense mechanism, and practicality and realism should win out in this case against technicality. On top of all this, the best round for the Gepard is 35mm API-T, so by bringing a full rack of APDS you are depriving yourself of the full capabilities of the Oerlikon

It’s correct. The manufacturer of the guns set aside the box.
The leading explanation is excess barrel wear, especially for something whose primary purpose is anti-air, firing lower intensity rounds.

Do mean the FAPDS (DM33/PMD-055) ?
If yes they have the same pen.
And it could only be used starting with the Gepard 1A2.

That’s more of doctrine/logistical reason, not the technicality that the vehicle can’t have full APDS belt.

i heard it had slightly less, nvm then

All good

does it carry multiple secondary belts?

no

FAPDS is only thing Gepard 1A2 uses tho, it doesnt use any other ammo now.

ok, humor me, lets say the german military desides to use the Gepards as infantry fighting vehichles, would they be able to load it with apds?

Barrels are probably not designed to handle that kind of load.

It’s like pushing the enterprise at warp 10 for too long. Scottie will get upset and say “she’s gonna blow”.

the rounds already overheat the barrels and what is that refrence?

Different ammo puts different stress on the barrels. Higher velocity and increased pressure to fire APDS rounds causes greater barrel fatigue.

Reference? USS Enterprise from original Star Trek (and the movies too) Scottie the engineer.

It’s not the barrels but the V0 measuring coils that were affected, hence why they were replaced by new ones during the NDV to Gepard 1A2 - specifically because this variant used FAPDS (DM33) as its’ anti-air round.
The old coils woud simply wear out to quickly when measuring the V0 of sub-calibre rounds for regular(Anti-Air) purposes. (since you’d be firing far more of these than in the few scenarios where gepards need to fire APDS at armoured targets)

Gepard 1A2 was a one off Prototype that never entered service

and that s not even its real name, Gaijin made it up together with part of the Vehicle itself, for examplelike the Sidam it should only have 1 Missile Launcher

is it? Why?

its both. reality is they do realy carry that much APDS shots, but except for that, no mechanical thing forbids to load an entire APDS ammo rack. But gaijin is inconsistent, and while letting tanks and AFVs carry specifically best, expensive anti-tank ammo rack (hello bradley, but goodbye BMP and BMD as USSR suffers and also has such stupid game mechanic) and SOME SPAA carry an entire anti-tank load, they forbid that to Gepards.
