German Destroyer Z51: why BR 4.7?

Z51 is the new naval addition for Germany this patch and as it stands it is massively over BRd.

Compared to the Z15 Erich Steinbrinck at 4.0 you get a ship that:

  • Has the same main calibre (4 12.8 cm guns)
  • a worse anti-aircraft armament
  • Slower (66.7 vs 70.3 km/h)
  • Six torpedoes instead of eight
  • No depth charges or mortar

So for that 0.7 BR increase you get:

  • A fuel tank that covers the rear magazine (not the front one)
  • 22 more crew
  • Mines

None of which is enough to make up that BR difference. It should instead be 4.0 rank 1, replacing K2. K2 can then move to rank 2 and Z32 can move to rank 3.

Gaijin just make sure Z51 is DoA. Also Z46 and Z47 are at poor state at 5.0 with no APHE, while Daring-class destroyers are same BR.

new Destroyer’s BR is mostly weird right now.

So it can act as food for the newly added American and Russian ships.

That is Germany and Britain’s role in naval battles.

Russian and USA have received multiple modern boats with missiles. Meanwhile Britain gets one of the weakest armed destroyers.

to be fair to Gaijin, destroyer BRs have never made much sense, so by their standards this is perfectly normal

Their logic is that because 51 is such a high number it must be better than the others.

In reality it was just a test bed for the new diesel engines, so things were kept simple.

I’m gonna say it. Skill issue. I don’t really care. As long as I can get Elbing and Emden without researching ANOTHER DAMN DESTROYER (I’m so close to finishing rank II) I’m happy.
