Geniune Question Regarding Improving In Ground

Getting sent to the hangar in the first 2 minutes or less isn’t my idea of fun. I played 4 games last night. and averaged an activity time of 1:20.

I’ll start with staying alive. My average activity time last time I played was like 1:20, and I rarely see or get to fire at an enemy.

well ground arcade follows different rulesets than ground, and I wont pretend I know about playing ground arcade.

still, few universal rules will apply nonetheless.

issue is warthunder has steep learning curve. id suggest you to stick to one BR for now and learn how to read the map.

Thats the quintesential thing that will carry over to any BR and any nation.

I appreciate the input. I feel Gaijin tried to make arcade too realistic, and I just wanna drive and shoot. That, however, is a different topic.

Well i feel arcade is too much arcade…depends on what you are looking for…

I assume you are going forward too fast and without taking cover…that does not work well in WT, unless you know VERY WELL what you are doing…

As a simple tip, i suggest you follow some of your team AND more important, use COVER when closing with the enemy.

Thanks! Right now, I’m using tanks that are rather slow, so I usually get left at spawn. I’ve given up on the light tank at my current BR.

Maybe because I’m not very good, and have very little patience, is why I feel arcade is too realistic.

I did/do the same…usual ends with me saying “Dumb me, should have waited”. And i get eager to shot, so i expose way more than i should…

War Thunder is NOT your standard FPS…guns are slow, targets are big and one hit may end it. So you take cover, peek, shoot…and go back into cover.

THAT SAID…you also need to aim well…and that takes “a lot” of practice…sorry…learning curve can be steep. SLOW tanks are usually good for learning…you are “forced” to play slow :) and they usually have better armor.

Also, I’m a PTFO guy. So, probably doesn’t help I’m going paths that are obvious to others.

If you rush to CAPs you WILL be AMBUSHED almost everytime…particularly if you are the first one there…

Standard tactic is getting to CAP and wait for the enemy…depends a bit on the map…

Capping fast IS NOT so important as it may look…better to get close and take a good spot so your team wins the local fight and then keeps the CAP. (sounds easier as it is)
KILLS are much more important than capping…

Truth is…even with the best tactics, one good/bad shot can ruin your day…

add me on discord Stream_Beam. Ill coach you when I can, or at least show you how you could improve. And don’t worry, we have all been there.

A question i didnt see asked. What BR are we talking? low tier or high tier? what tank? I see some people recommending against arcade, but honestly i think its a great learning tool. It will help teach you weak spots at this low BR. Also watching your own death cam can be of great help in seeing your own tanks weakspots. Germany will hold your hand at these low BRs with their APHE and really good guns

Wow. I figured it would be the other way around. Shows what I’ve learned.

Blockquote add me on discord Stream_Beam.

I’ll have to remember to do that. I’ll send a message because my Discord name is different

Right now, I’m at 6.7-7.0
My Tiger 2s get smacked around because everybody can hit the turret. The light tank I have (German version of the M41 I think).

ok, yea that is a tricky BR because you start running into HEAT and small fast vehicles. I personally switch from playing AB to RB around this BR. I am by no means a great player so i’m sure there are people with better advice, but my thought process for tiger 2s or really any heavy tank around that 6.7-7.0 range is to assume everything can pen me and play it as cautious as i would play a light tank. Your armor can save you but rather then rely on it just treat it as a second chance if you mess up.

I just don’t last long enough in RB to use anything other than reserve, pair that with my limited time to play, I’d never leave 1.0. In my experience, I keep going up against newer rounds and tanks the Tigers weren’t designed to defend against, and the turret is essentially like glass. I also don’t really understand the rounds all that well either. I see thicker armor and bigger boom in the picture, that’s what I use :D

Fair enough. AB is totally doable. I just prefer RB at this BR due to the fact that you can actually sneak around without the auto spot system ruining your flank lol. I forget the round name but you want to be rocking your APHE with the biggest explosive mass. its listed in the stat card for the ammo

Guess i forgot the main tip…DONT PLAY HIGH tiers until you are ready for it…
At higher tiers combat is faster, ranges are longer and most importantly…enemies are MUCH better.
Play low tiers until you understand what is happening…and move slower from there…
I am guessing that most opponents of your King Tigers can see and shoot you farther away than you can see them…at those tiers you need to scout the field BEFORE moving…and spot the enemy with binos or gunsights…

I can’t see half the enemies when the auto spot is “off”/“doormant”. It seems like it cycles on and off?

I figured working my way up from the bottom would help that, but apparently I’m kinda slow

Also, I found my stats on Statshark. Good Lord that was depressing . Ironically enough, my naval RB stats were worse than my ground AB stats. Maybe because I last longer in a boat, but I’m also currently struggling with cruisers.

Light tanks in the German tree are the most rare things i’ve seen lol

Probably for good reason. It’s quick but useless, otherwise.
