I have been playing for a while, but I’m terrible. I could very well be the worst player in WT history.
I’ll play on Ground Arcade 1-2 hours a week( Xbox One), and of course, German main. I consistently get sent back to the hangar in under 5 minutes. I spend more time in the loading screen than in a match. I understand I have a MASSIVE skill issue, but it’s hard to get better when I can’t make it out of spawn, and if I finish the match I’m usually placed 14-16 in the team. I don’t play RB due to not getting enough spawn points to use more than one vehicle, and I don’t remember every vehicle, every round used, and frankly would spend what little time I have in the protection/penetration thing.
If there is apost about this, please forgive me. I really did use the search function first.
well, you can start by checking what your fighting against, look where you can shoot and how they can defend themselves against you, maybe try to play with your team so if you miss the shot your ally can maybe help you aswell.
Also it is normal to not be good in a game with such an steep learning curve like war thunder, im not good at the game and I do have quite some play time, you shouldn’t bother getting that 1st place every time tho , focus on having fun more than anything cuz with time your gonna learn things and oh boy this game takes a long time for you to reach high tier.
Stay in arcade gamemode till you feel fine to play realistic no need to rush to realistic gamemode if you can’t enjoy playing the game.
Germany doesn’t teach u to get good at the game, I wouldn’t recommend it, nor playing arcade battles. You can tough it out in rb for a while, eventually you’ll get the hang of it. Use the preview and armour protection tools to learn ur enemies weakspots, and look for good positions on a map. Also try to make a strong lineup and don’t rush straight to points
I did/do the same…usual ends with me saying “Dumb me, should have waited”. And i get eager to shot, so i expose way more than i should…
War Thunder is NOT your standard FPS…guns are slow, targets are big and one hit may end it. So you take cover, peek, shoot…and go back into cover.
THAT SAID…you also need to aim well…and that takes “a lot” of practice…sorry…learning curve can be steep. SLOW tanks are usually good for learning…you are “forced” to play slow :) and they usually have better armor.
If you rush to CAPs you WILL be AMBUSHED almost everytime…particularly if you are the first one there…
Standard tactic is getting to CAP and wait for the enemy…depends a bit on the map…
Capping fast IS NOT so important as it may look…better to get close and take a good spot so your team wins the local fight and then keeps the CAP. (sounds easier as it is)
KILLS are much more important than capping…
Truth is…even with the best tactics, one good/bad shot can ruin your day…
A question i didnt see asked. What BR are we talking? low tier or high tier? what tank? I see some people recommending against arcade, but honestly i think its a great learning tool. It will help teach you weak spots at this low BR. Also watching your own death cam can be of great help in seeing your own tanks weakspots. Germany will hold your hand at these low BRs with their APHE and really good guns
Wow. I figured it would be the other way around. Shows what I’ve learned.

I’ll have to remember to do that. I’ll send a message because my Discord name is different

Right now, I’m at 6.7-7.0
My Tiger 2s get smacked around because everybody can hit the turret. The light tank I have (German version of the M41 I think).
ok, yea that is a tricky BR because you start running into HEAT and small fast vehicles. I personally switch from playing AB to RB around this BR. I am by no means a great player so i’m sure there are people with better advice, but my thought process for tiger 2s or really any heavy tank around that 6.7-7.0 range is to assume everything can pen me and play it as cautious as i would play a light tank. Your armor can save you but rather then rely on it just treat it as a second chance if you mess up.
I just don’t last long enough in RB to use anything other than reserve, pair that with my limited time to play, I’d never leave 1.0. In my experience, I keep going up against newer rounds and tanks the Tigers weren’t designed to defend against, and the turret is essentially like glass. I also don’t really understand the rounds all that well either. I see thicker armor and bigger boom in the picture, that’s what I use :D
