using google translate, it looks to be a prototype. I’m sure someone who speaks Japanese can translate it better though ^^
need this japanese m50 in tech tree now
What about the radar? Does it get notched? Was wondering if datalink helps ignore chaff
As I said, it gets notched and chaffed about as effortlessly as any other ARH missile in the game.
Is the ARH Type 81 more effective against helis, or are they ‘permanently notching’ due to usually being in the air at very low speeds?
I didn’t get the chance to test that unfortunately. Wanted to try new SAMs vs helis today, but alas, the dev server is offline.
Your comment wasn’t clear as it seemed you are only referring to the ARH missile, presumably in mad dog mode. I was curious how the ARH would function with radar and datalink as in theory, as long as the radar vehicle can track, the ARH missile should hit thanks to datalink
I just quite curious why they using 105mm on the prototype and change it to 106mm on type 60?
That’s not how it works sadly. Once the missile’s seeker goes pittbull, you can’t guide it onto something else.
I know that but, I’d assume it will go back into IOG + DL as the doppler filter kicks in. Though it being SPAA and looking up, it may never kick in and be always vulnerable to chaff
There was a suggestion for it on the old forum, although nowadays many of the photos are broken.
According to this, the Type 91 SAM has impact fuse only - no proximity fuse. Also, if my translator translated it correctly, Type 91 has optical seeker only, not IR. A combination of IR and optical seeker came later with the Type 91 kai, which would also come with a smokeless motor.
We could find more information about this and then make a report. The Type 91 kai would be especially deadly if your target never even saw it coming.
If all the information on the website I linked to is correct, then the Type 91 missile we got on the Type 93 in game is a weird mix of both types of missiles + a proximity fuse that is not present on the missile irl.
I don’t know about the fuse, but the seeker is combined Optical Imaging / IR seeker. So at least that part is correct, at least as correct as it can without having the Imaging modeled in any way

“その最大の特長は、 目標の形状(画像:可視光) と目標から発する赤外線を検知する2種類のセンサを持つ複合誘導方式を採用したことにあり、これにより、スティンガと比較して目標を正面から要撃できる能力が高いこと、ヘリコプタのような低熱源目標に対しての要撃が可能であること、命中率が高いこと及び対妨害性に優れること等の特長を有している。” (The biggest feature is that it adopts a combined guidance system, which has two types of sensors that detect the shape of the target (image: visible light) and the infrared rays emitted from the target, which has the advantages of being able to fire targets head-on compared to Stinga, being able to fire targets at low heat sources such as helicopters, being able to fire targets with high hit rates and excellent anti-angling properties.)

It is incorrect. Type 91 has both TV and IR seekers
And according that they claiming missing IR seeker, mostly claiming missing of proximity fuse is incorrect
Type 91 Kai has IIR seeker only, without TV one
Is that something that could be added for the Type 93? I’m all for that smokeless motor.
Type 91 Kai has IIR + smokeless engine and Type 93 can get it but better to add new Type 93 (Late)
This is from the Japanese wiki and this is the source: https://web.archive.org/web/20160308094049/http://www.mod.go.jp/trdi/data/pdf/60th/2-5.pdf.
Looks to include something about other missiles too.
Created a report:

I don’t think that would be necessary tho? The missile would fly just the same, main difference would be easier use against front aspect targets during low visibility and the smokeless motor. You could make an argument to put it higher in BR, but only slightly to 9.7, which doesn’t really change much since you usually run it in a lineup with other 9.7 vehicles (Type 16, RCV, ICV etc.).
Increasing BR of Type 93 means that 9.3 line will be left without SAM
Meanwhile adding another one will give more SAM with more respawns for 9.7 and 11.3
