I’ll have a video up eventually diving into this issue with top tier Japan.

Hey everyone, I wasn’t sure where to ask this, but I need a bit of help. Do we have any idea on what or where the optics are/were supposed to be on the CCV? I was combing through references like the 2013 testing footage, and the MoD’s business and policy evaluation documents from FY2020, such as this PDF, but I couldn’t identify what I should use for a reference. I was guessing they’d either be mounted on top, or have the gunner optic mounted in the turret face.

The turret cheek armor extends more forward than that
In fact even the current models are wrong
There’s only a tiny amount of armor that isn’t in the turret cheek. Over 90% of the arrowhead actually has armor and the armor extends further back on both sides

30mm M230LF?

Edit: Just realized it’s a 50.cal

This the thing going on the type 10s roof?

Indeed, the 30mm will require a different mount, possibly even one purchased from overseas.

This RWS can fit a 12.7mm, 7.62mm, 5.56mm, or 40mm grenade launcher, although as of the moment I’ve only seen evidence that the 12.7mm was actually tested.

Not this one, the Type 10 will require an RWS that can take a 30mm cannon, of which this one cannot.

The Type 16 did get an RWS on one of its prototypes, but it does not look the same as this one.

RWS

As for the capabilities of this mount, I do know that it’s stabilized, has target tracking and leading software, an LRF, and an infrared camera (thermals), so it’s pretty much as effective as you can make a 50.cal. At that point, maybe it would even be worth adding this vehicle with SLAP rounds as a low tier SPAA or rat vehicle.

Sorry we at Gaijin have found that you’re wrong according to our sources

So Gaijin’s sources are old. This is a fresh source published a few hours ago.

In this case it’s less a denial of proper sources and more an allergic reaction to HE-VT ammunition below 40mm.

tbh alot of 35 and 30mm tanks should get ABM ammo no? like the vilkas or the VBCI

Yes, anything with the American 30 or 35mm gun should at least be capable of using airburst ammo. Whether or not their respective militaries actually purchased such ammo is another consideration entirely.
