I think your speculation is correct: it can be operated. The specification states that the antenna driving mechanism can direct the radar to certain azimuth and elevation angles.
The radar should support both 360° search with coarse tracking, and partial-area search with precise tracking while the antenna is fixed at an arbitrary azimuth angle. Therefore, the latter mode appears to be missing. This should be reported as another issue too.
Odd. Still, probably won’t hurt if it gets labeled as a duplicate. Hopefully a bug report can be made about the sector search mode, maybe see if we can get a search elevation angle increase with it as well or at least a high angle search mode, we’ll see.
I’m hoping the radar tilt itself will increase the vertical search to 35 degrees, as that is at least workable. Still not Spyder or IRIS-T SLM good, but workable. Sadly, the radar’s vertical search angle won’t be buffed unless someone digs up some actual techincal data.
The new type 81 is not necessary, they can just giving the radar vehicle to the current tan sam in the tree, seperate into 2 vehicle just making the current in tree version a joke

Is the current tan sam without radar worth it at 11.7? Definitely not, I don’t think it worth for 11.3 also, tbh the Tors are somehow better than it and Tors are at 11.0
Notice the hydraulic extending arms - in-game it only goes to the middle of the radar antenna, while irl it goes basically all the way to the top. I tried searching through google for pictures of a radar that would be the same as the one in game, but I had no luck.
The case of the arms not extending all the way is 100% a animation bug right now
If you fold/unfold the radar you can see the arms are actually connected to the correct spot they just dont extend at the moment
Nah, it’s just changed to arming utility helicopters instead. There was a design study to arm the UH-2 and a BK-117D was spotted with weapon mounted a few months back.
