General Japanese & JASDF General Discussion

It seems to me that @skultew1234 might have some more information about the armor of the Kawasaki Ki-102 Otsu

Is there any good documentation that the Ho-401 got a heat round. I thought the Ki-102 was a ground attack plane so munitions as well. This plane could be so much more.

Wonder how they all could be implemented, some could be in folders but only a max of 4. Assuming there’s 2 folder’s, that leaves 4 other variants missing.

RF-4EJ / (Kai which never existed)
What use do you have with a Phantom that can only use it’s gun and hypothetically missiles.
In no exercise or in its service has it ever used missiles outside training dummy’s.
By that logic, the F-4EJ can use GCS-1 and GCS-2 while never being adopted to it’s inventory in the first place.

I wasn’t asking if it did use them, I was only curious if the physical capability was removed as part of the conversion.

Yes, that is exactly what it means. The GCS-1 is entirely self contained, the only input it needs from the aircraft is the release. This means that any aircraft compatible with Mk.82 or (J)M117 bombs can use GCS-1, even if they didn’t in service, assuming they can also account for the added size and weight of the guidance kit itself.

Not sure about the GCS-2 though, I’m sure someone else might know more about it.

a model picture, with the security pin on?
Models ain’t that precise bro,…

since it’s a picture taken from a museum, it is possible that it have been mounted on the F-104J presented,… but nothing says that F-104J got AIM-9L in service.

Prove me wrong then.
Find a credible source outside a glorified fan book for modelers.
that a F-104J can use AIM-9L’s.

Hint: Just like the F-4EJ / EJ Kai with the AAM-3
it can’t.

F-4EJ only carried AIM-9L’s for display
F-4EJ Kai can’t use AAM-3 because it was only meant to use AIM-9P-3, AIM-9L’s, AIM-7E, AIM-7F and the AIM-7M’s.
It can’t use air to ground guided munitions.
Ballistic computer only for rockets not bombs.

ASM-1 and 2’s were only test fired from the EJ ADTW Phantom’s not regular Phantoms.

i’ve edited in between,… adding more to the post you answered to,…

I am also eagerly waiting for the F-86D to be added for Japan as a unique tech tree or squadron vehicle.

Were these modified?

Either way, Japan could do with more jet options

Not that I am aware off. they are basically all weather sabres using the same/similar Proxymity fuze rockets as the F-89D

i don’t think so,… they were produced in USA

I see, well Japan isn’t exactly loaded for domestic options around that era iirc, so I don’t see an issue with that as a squadron vehicle.

this?

Some while ago I had an idea on how to change the Squadron vehicle mechanic.
Kind of want to turn it into a special focus tree of a nation with experimental / prototype vehicles.

Something that came to mind in 2023 / 24

While it would need to have a UI overhaul, I really like that idea as it allows more room for vehicles (just wish it was faster to get squadron vehicles).

Also I wanted to ask here if any work started on the G-10N bomber, I can’t seem to find anything myself so I thought I’d ask here.
