JSQ-20 target self proppelled drone ship, mentioned explicitly for air to ship bomb and missile testing and training. I have more information on it somewhere and its fairly small

Japan’s main rival was China and Russia so there landing craft / amphibious vehicles where the target.
Entire thing is like 4 meters long, and the target illuminator is like the size of a pizza box in this setup

You think that’s enough to target a BMP floating in the sea or on a beach?
Its not size thats an issue, its contrast. It need a temperature difference of like 50c to make out a target. So it would take a ground target being either particularly hot, or the background being particularly cold, in order to hit a land target. So if it could, it would still be very inconsistent.
IMO it should likely be able to on cold / winter maps, atleast, or against ground targets floating on water, yes, although even that’s not confirmed.

Gaijin is not going to make it hyper realistic two times a day heat seeking anti-tank missiles as the air and ground are the same temperature. I know with my thermal camera you can adjust what your seeing to get a bit more accuracy. Don’t know if its the same here.
