General Incredible lag

Ye I am full screen all the time as well. RTX3070 and i7-10700k and system idles on average 60-70% GPU usage and 50% CPU usage even while streaming at 1080p 60FPS. At witts end with it - sometimes a whole match is just cursed. Nothing regular or consistent about it either so tough as nails to replicate.

It literally lags out everything without climbing into my system resources. Everything else I play that is technically heavier than WT gives no issues. At this rate HEAVILY moded Arma 3 is more stable.

Hey man, I’ve seen wt devs have a lot more issues with stability and bugs lately. (I my own opinion I’ve seen them have a lot more issues in general, common laziness)

Regarding fixes, not much can be done. I have compiled a list of the things you can do to help:

  • RUN DX11! DX12 sucks, very bad on warthunder, personally give me visual bugs
  • Run settings that are good for you card, honestly not really relevant to WT, I can run everything maxed, just without SSAA and the best AA on a 1060 mobile
  • Keep up to date on drivers, close out all other tabs and stuff so nothing is actively eating CPU
  • I’ve personally had to stop overclocking and undervolting on my PC because it cause horrible issue, only with WT
  • Delete and redownload the game overnight, WT’s server updates and random patches will sometimes glitch on steam, corrupting files or leaving missing files. Optionally you can verify file integrity if playing via steam

Doing this stuff, only get fps drops from 144 → 99 fps every once in a while, and it’s short. (I run at 144) Might be different for you, but this helped for me

Something ain’t right there buddy, I get 100+ almost max setting without SSAA on my 1060 mobile.

You might want to look into any hardware issues or clutter on your system, but I mean you should be able to run RT full setting at 1440p and still get 100+ fps, worked on my 3060 ti.

Defos not my side. Also, think you maybe misread system usage as max FPS. Or maybe what the stream is running at… not sure. Also note that we are talking about random drops - not constant output. What this whole thread is about.

Edit - also been building PCs since the late 90s, been gaming solely on PC since '95. This is a WT issue.

Maybe I misread, my bad, I do agree still it’s a WT. I personally think it could be a server side thing, seeing as they always have issues with servers going down. But in reality probably just the devs ain’t deving

This was a thought till but recently, for the last week or so, it would tank the whole system yet not touch hardware headroom. Best I can describe it is the game wants to crash and Windows is trying to save it from crashing. Only thing I can say with certainty is that if you let it run long enough it eventually will crash and then be fine again for a bit. I forgot to mention this earlier but roughly after 2 to 3 hours without rectifying behavior the game will shut down. Cc @FlyingDoctor

Check the memory usage of the GPU… There was a memory leak yonks ago which I have no idea whether it was actually fixed, but I know you’ll start with half usage, then each match after it was slowly creeping higher.

One of the first things I checked. I always have a performance monitor open. Basically, all the “idiot” checks are done.

This is where every change in a patch log would help to make it easier to pinpoint what changed when.

After some more digging - only way to fully get around it is to delete the Cache folder contents after each battle. This is with both DX11 and DX12.

For me personally I gain about 27% performance average.

Gaijin has once again done an incredible job on their game, and if you’re using an NVIDIA GPU, running Studio Drivers instead of Game Ready Drivers nets almost a doubling in frame rate. I don’t know why or how this happens, but the difference is immediately noticable both in and out of battle.

If you’re on AMD/Intel, just cope. Gaijin’s implementation of the DX12 API along with suplementary GPU features such as DLSS, FSR and XeSS are all a dumpster fire and do more bad than good. I dread the day when Gaijin removes the DX11 API.

That’s intriguing.

Like, that shouldn’t be the case, but it is something, and it shows you are investigating.

Nice.

Thing is it happens on DX11 as well.

I tried with the studio driver and it was OK for a bit but issue did become issue again so not a solid change. Also - not that great idea if you play other games that rely on the game driver.

well, i found a solution that worked for a week, going to the BIOS and enabling full RAM capacity ( i have 32gb DDR5 6000Mhz, but was set to 4800 Mhz, new set to 6000Mhz). It worked for a week, 10 days, but now i once again have the same problem, after every game it gets worse… Gaijin should realise there is more and more player affected everyday… for me this particular problem is occuring since now a few months.

Digging a bit further -

WT - Clearing shader cache every few hours of play
Waiting. Literally just that - waiting. Rapid battle succession seems to agitate frame drops and stutters. Almost like the previous game does not “unload” properly. Found the issue to be less severe giving it a minute or two between battles.

Discord : Big kicker here and already have reports open with Discord but have noticed that disabling debugging on Settings > Voice & Video > Debugging has gotten rid of part of the problem as well.

Mostly run “smooth” now most of the time.

Problem solved, just do 50 pushups and abs between each battle.
Game devs just want us to be healthier.

I gave up trying out these snake oil fixes, nothing helps, I already wasted days trying to get the stutters go away.
Game engine is a pile of crap. And the best of all, big silence from the game developers/management.

Started playing avatar frontiers of pandora recently, so the 4080 I bought is not wasted on wt.
Blows Wart Under out of the water graphics wise, and never any stutter.
Really good open world game, cost me 20 euros.

Just randomly, try disable the discord overlay maybe… Maybe even try without discord and other overlay/graphical stuff running.

These are off by default. My ADHD brain can not stand all the added clutter.

Check nVidia Experience. Last time I had looked, WT was recording 6-8 versions of the same event in the game triggered events. A single kill would have 8 copies, all just a split second apart in starts.

That could cause trouble after a bit.

I believe they fixed that with the launch of the NVidia App?
Either or, I always tell people to turn NVidia Highlights off as well and rather run manual quick capture or record. When I play test I have all recording disabled.

Either way, defos game engine dying.

I’d still check it, and even disable the shadowplay section completely just to see.
