Gaijin needs to slow down adding more modern vehicles in War Thunder

I really want more modern kit.

Things like the Tornado Gr4 (1997 - 2019) to add some advanced new AGMs to Britain in the Form of Brimstones (Harrier Gr9A also an option for this)

Something like the Typhoon, to give Britain a native option for a top tier fighter instead of being reliant upon the Gripen for a top tier dogfighter. (or give the Tornado F3 its IRL loadout of ASRAAMs)

In tanks. With how nerfed the Challenger 2 is and how massive a joke the Challenger 3 TD is. We desperately need the full production model of the Challenger 3 (not even in service yet) and we’ve needed for over a year now. Much is the same for other lines, such as the Ajax (not even in service yet) as a top tier IFV or the Supacat HVM (newly developed with Ukraine) as a top tier SPAA.

In Helis we really need the AH-64E (just entered service) or even just the AH-64D to get missiles newer than from the 1980s, FnF Hellfires would be a major boost to not just Britain but also the US. Would also love the Wildcat with 20x Martlet missiles, That would be fun.

Even Naval we NEED more modern vehicles. WW2 battleships instead of WW1 Dreadnoughts and even Falkland war era Frigates and Destroyers sooner rather than later to give us comprable SAM carrying ships to other nations.

TLDR. The Ship has already sailed, and either htey need to delete every addition in the past 2 or 3 years or keep going. Current game balance isnt good enough to just stop now. Im really hoping for some very modern new equipment to be added to my main tree this year with any luck and if Im sat waiting for something like the Typhoon for the next few years “because its too new” im gunna be rather pissed

I believe a large portion of War Thunder’s continued success is the implementation of newer and advanced vehicles. Generally speaking, I think modern vehicles are an important part of the game, and the core player base appreciates the variety and novelty different vehicles provide.

WW2 is almost exclusively: ‘shoot gun/drop bomb’ where as modern vehicles gives the palyer a wide variety of tools and technology to balance.

There’s also several tech trees with WW2 vehicles already, if a player has researched all of Germany or USSR, there’s still USA, UK and Italy to provide fresh examples of authentic WW2 vehicles.

I fail to see any downsides to adding more modern vehicles, that aren’t just the downsides associated with poorly managing the game.

I might be on the other side of the fence on this. My hope is Gaijin will soon be done with adding modern stuff, for whatever reason and get back to adding interwar/ww2/late 40’s/early 50’s -ground vehicles and planes.

Im not very interested in the modern vehicles so I am quite fed-up with all that.

So here is to hoping, that gaijin will soon stop adding all this modern trash. Cheers!

While the modern vehicles can be interesting and do have a place in War Thunder in my opinion, it has always been the past that enthralled me. I remember getting into an argument with a cousin after church as a young kid, because the Fortress passage leading onto the church grounds had one of the walls dedicated to the ones of our Village who fought and died or got lost in the first world war. I guess I knew of the Great War before, but had no idea about the years. I was sure 1914-18 was WW2 already. Maybe that was the moment that made me discover a whole World War I had no real understanding of. Trench Warfare, Melee Combat, Airplanes and the great Manfred von Richthofen. It took many more years until I encountered a Magazine about the First Tanks. I literally had no idea! That the Tank was born in The Great War, how they looked etc. When Battlefield 1 came out, it was a year long childhood and youth curiosity being satisfied.

What I am trying to say is, that there are so many mysteries and surprises in the past, in history. Even this Forum impresses me from time to time, featuring vehicles I never knew.

Meanwhile it is always just some new Jet or a Leopard MBT or a T-80 in the Updates :(

I can agree for the most part. We’re still missing a massive amount of gen 3 aircraft variants and earlier stuff, hell add those into folders for the ones that don’t care but if they’re oh so focused on variety they should live up to that statement and not break the meta every patch by adding another more and more modern plane to a seemingly never balanced top tier roster

Still annoyed with how the cold war got pretty much skipped over considering how few vehicles there are. WW2 makes up half of the techtrees even though it’s only a timeperiod of roughly 10 years (interwar included), but cold war vehicles barely exist at all other than base variants of the main MBTs.

No, please, enough with modern vehicles—we need to focus on the current ones! Ignoring the issues and missing armor described in documents, especially about the Abrams series, should be a priority. I don’t see the need for more modern vehicles, which will just bring more bugs and lead to matches overcrowded with a single nation because it’s currently the meta in the game. I would prefer if they focused a major update solely on reviewing the documents and adding what each tank truly has in terms of armor!

The Challengers, Black Knight, SEP V2/V1, and the previous M1A2 variants are completely wrong in terms of their turret and additional ERA blocks. Since when does a Challenger, which can withstand multiple RPG rounds from all directions, just become immobilized and not destroyed or inoperable, get so easily taken out by 30mm rounds in the game? The same applies to the Abrams series, which are now considered the most reliable vehicles for crew survivability due to how well they protect their crew, with Kevlar throughout the vehicle, depleted uranium armor on the turret, RPG-resistant sides thanks to the confidence in American ERA blocks—and this even before they switched to the Trophy system on their MBTs with the Israelis.

We simply don’t need more modern tanks or aircraft. What we need are two major updates focused on improving what we already have and a proper re-evaluation of the documents, which are now publicly available since many years have passed.

I’m the opposite personally, I find modern vehicles the most interesting and not really represented in gaming such as many Chinese and Russian videos. DCS is too focused on American vehicles and ace combat is way too Arcady. There’s plenty of WW2 stuff in Warthunder already. Also got to remember the increasing rate of technological development. Personally I’m still waiting for the eurofighter and I’m hoping early next year.

Not everyone enjoys playing slow WW2 era vehicles and not everyone enjoys playing modern vehicles.

I would assume that the sales numbers for Premium at Gaijin tell them quite well which era is currently preferred and where their focus should be to maximise their sales.

Modern Vehicles are just too fast and hectic in gameplay for me.

Probably why their adding more modern vehicles, I don’t see most people be hyped about some WW2 aircraft but the next modern jet

Gaijin, stop the modern vehicle race already, before you hit the brick wall.
I would value the addition of something like Panzer II Ausf. L “Luchs”
higher than a hundred more slightly different modern machine variations.
The quality of modern tank gameplay in War Thunder sucks
because most players simply cannot handle it properly.

WW2 can hype a lot of people. Like the Sturmtiger and TOG II did, or the German Sherman and prototype T-34 that sold out in a flash.

They did not sell because they are good, but because they’re rare.

There is plenty of fun to have in the lower BRs, but I also enjoy playing modern Leopards, Wiesel 1A2, AFT09 and TKX. So Gaijin is doing the right thing by adding vehicles for everyone and while the amount of WW2 vehicles is already extensive in game, the modern era vehicles are not.
Look at the variants of the Panzer IV in game or the T-34. They all feel the same when playing them, even though they have some variations on the rounds used and the calibre, but they all move like a Panzer IV or a T-34.
You get the same with the Leopard as well, because certain vehicles will spearhead an era in the game, but at the end of the day, it’s all the same. Slower gameplay in lower BRs and faster paced gameplay in higher BRs. Nothing wrong with that, just enjoy what you like to play and done.

I disagree. Modern aircrafts can attract a lot of new players.
The only problem is the lack of proper gameplay and balance issues.

Personally, there is is enough vehicles in game to keep you busy for the next few years, even with premium. I also predict that majority of the players that moan for new vehicles will stop playing anyways when there is nothing left to add & each tech tree looks like a McDonalds Franchise menu (copy paste).

Ideally, I would like to see event vehicles being the only addition and some of the more unique WW2 and Cold War vehicles, including some of the concept vehicles from the era.

Same time, I would also like to so improvement in game design, bug fixes and map design along with more maps. So -

  1. Ground effect is not a vacuum, it is a air pocket you ride on that requires less thrust and pitch to maintain lift.
  2. Mouse Aim still has incorrect rudder input on a roll & pitch (turn)
  3. Rounds vanishing when taking barrel or breach damage or dying
  4. Tree hitboxes being at a offset from the tree
  5. Floating buildings (Afghan Alt History you can hide your AV8B+ under some buildings and have fun. Can be quite lol
  6. APFSDS not ricocheting on shot traps. Along with APFSDS, APHE, AP, HESH damage projection. Yes, I have had it before where I overpressured with APFSDS by hitting the barrel of a tank.
  7. Clear and separated game mode and intent between Arcade, Realistic and Sim. Increased reward for arcade players so they do not feel obliged to grind in realistic, complaining about realistic modes and then realistic being turned into arcade death box matches.
  8. Ghost artifacts in the sky and under terrain while using TWS
  9. Seperate BRs (WW2, Cold War, Modern) by technology and not year. Preventing WW2 tech and designs fighting Cold War and Cold War fighting Modern
  10. Balance BRs for what the vehicle is, not how well people play with it.

This is just what came to mind immediately.

Thats a very rare exception. Just imagine for a second if Gaijin try sell us Sweden Sherman for 60 euros.
