Gaijin needs to slow down adding more modern vehicles in War Thunder

F15 is a plane that could of been added last year or can be added next year’s, there’s plenty of versions of it from just sparrows and 9Ls to aim120Ds and 9x

Vehicles, not just planes.

For you personally, how many are spaded and aced? Other game modes like naval and ground?

The world only has so much to offer when it comes to what can be added.

I don’t really play naval or ground a lot, quite a lot of my top tier aircraft are spaded, I’m leaving them unspaded on purpose to get bonus rp for next vehicle. But the planes that actually interest me so the most modern ones most are spaded or near spaded

I’ve got a jet premium in every nation just to avoid playing props

Fair enough, but then there is still the fact (that needs to be understood) that there are only so many vehicles that can be added to game without going fictional.

Outside of modern vehicles there are also some pretty cool vehicles that can be added. WT gives us a ton of vehicles each year yet it seems to never satisfy a portion of the player base.

There are loads of cool cold war jets and jet trainers/ light attack jets that can be added

Gaijin really needs to fill in some of the TT holes and add actually unique stuff to subtrees cough Finland cough

Yep. Gaijin has tunnel vision on quick profits and doesn’t realize the long term health of the game increases their profit potential.

They are focusing on siphoning maximum money out of existing players instead of increasing the overall popularity of the game and creating more potential customers.

Depends who for, im personally lot interested in modern air combat, sure ww2 history is interesting but im a lot more interested in the current generation of aircraft like the eurofighter which we hopefully will see soon

that’s fine and dandy but there’s a lot of mechanics and older vehicles that need to be fleshed out and adding newer stuff constantly (like stealth for f117) draws dev attention away from it

NO! Its better to just keep adding and adding and adding, instead of fixing existing vehicles.

I think the current game has quite a lot of vehicles, but our gameplay is as lacking as ever, the activities are too monotonous just to get enough points, and the conquest mode we tested before has no further development. I would love to see the mechanics deepen and enrich.

Can you explain what interests you in modern air combat? Maybe I’ll finally see the appeal.

This will never happen as long as people still GE vehicles. buy premiums and want newer toys patch to patch.

Sorry for long wait.

-im a fan of modern combat planes in general, the avionics, weapons, tactics and strategies

-i like high pace and performance of modern jets

-top tier with fox3s involves a lot more strategy, which is what I like. It’s like a game of chess with supersonic telefonie poles

  • spotting aircraft especially in SIM is less off a pain with radars and off

-i feel there’s a lot more to know when it comes to top tier, where I see people struggle the most is they don’t understand what their doing, they don’t know how radar works, so they don’t know how to defend from it or how to use it, they don’t know how to use their airframe in most optimal use

Yeah… no… Gaijin doesn’t care. This week, a nice $80.00 fighter jet - and next, a wonderful squad tank for $75.00. You don’t get a choice, just sit back and suffer.

The problem isn’t just that Gaijin is adding modern vehicles too quickly it’s that the core balancing mechanics haven’t evolved to keep up with these additions. Right now, the BR system feels increasingly arbitrary, with modern vehicles lumped into matches where older counterparts stand little chance. Players often have to rely on gimmicks or extreme tactics just to stay competitive, rather than skillful engagement.

One of the biggest issues is weapon balance. Missiles, radar systems, RWR effectiveness, and armor modeling all vary wildly from nation to nation. Some vehicles get disproportionately strong weaponry, while others feel completely neglected. If Gaijin is serious about making War Thunder fair for everyone, they need to commit to consistent balance across all nations instead of favoring a select few.

A tier or ERA-based system could provide much-needed structure. Right now, matchmaking feels like a chaotic mix of technologies that don’t belong together cold war jets facing cutting-edge avionics, modern MBTs fighting designs from decades prior. Instead of the current BR model, separating vehicles by distinct ERAs would help maintain immersion while allowing for more sensible progression and balance.

There’s also the issue of long-term sustainability. If Gaijin keeps this pace, they’ll eventually run out of new vehicles, leaving only incremental upgrades to existing ones. Without a solid balancing foundation, gameplay will just keep becoming more frustrating rather than engaging. Slowing down content additions is only part of the solution, what’s needed is a full reevaluation of progression, matchmaking, and how vehicles interact on the battlefield.

If they don’t address these issues soon, the game is going to feel less like War Thunder and more like a race to squeeze every last modern vehicle into the lineup, regardless of gameplay balance.

Example of an ERA Based System

Instead of relying solely on Battle Ratings, vehicles would be grouped into historical eras based on their technological development and battlefield relevance.

Early Cold War

The Early Cold War period, spanning 1945 to 1955, would include early subsonic jets such as the F-86 Sabre and MiG-15, along with first-generation MBTs like the M48 Patton, early T-54 models, and Centurion variants. Missile technology would be limited at this stage, with only basic air-to-air missiles like AIM-9B and early guided bombs.

Late Cold War

The Late Cold War era, covering 1955 to 1975, would introduce supersonic aircraft such as the MiG-21, F-4 Phantom, and Lightning F.6. Tank development would see advancements in armor and firepower with models like the Leopard 1, M60, and T-62, while missile systems would become more capable, bringing air-to-air missiles like the AIM-7 and R-3R, as well as the introduction of ATGMs.

End of Cold War era

From 1975 to 1995, the End of Cold War era would feature fourth-generation fighters like the F-16A, MiG-29, and Mirage 2000. Tanks would transition to composite armor designs, including the Abrams M1, Challenger 1, and T-80. Missile systems would also improve significantly, with advanced guided weaponry, all-aspect IR missiles, and increasingly effective radar technologies.

Modern Era

The Modern Era, covering 1995 to the present day, would include fifth-generation platforms such as the Su-27SM, Rafale, and potential future additions like the F-22 and J-20. The most advanced MBTs would also be present, including Leopard 2A7, Type 10, and T-90M, alongside next-generation missile systems featuring active radar homing, AESA radars, and advanced fire control systems.

Main Point

An era-based system would prevent mismatched battles where outdated vehicles have no chance against high-tech opponents. It would make engagements feel historically accurate, increase immersion, and ensure a fairer balance by allowing nations to have comparable vehicles within their respective eras.

Additionally, it would improve progression by eliminating the frustrating gaps where players are forced into battles against overwhelmingly superior technology. By restructuring matchmaking this way, I feel by adopting this or something similar to this Gaijin could create a far more engaging and balanced experience for everybody.
