It’s a Centurion Mk.3 with less armor pretty much, fully stabilized and it used to fight 6.0 which was fun, until the 7.3-8.0 decompression.
Even better if its in a br where it faces most things that hadn’t even gotten it yet lol
Its fine. they just need to fix British APDS.
The FV4202 is actually decent. Other than it’s weak spots (Which I am tempted to bush up if I ever play 7.7 again) it can bounce for days in a hull down or behind a husk of a tank (@7.7 or below).
The shatter is what makes it annoying but since it is the same gun that gets used till the 105/120s. You learn quickly on what can and cannot shatter the round, so you pick those spots. However since it shatters at the same rate as the Conq does, it might as well be considered a mini Conq.
I like the 20Lber as it is fairly reliable for myself, at least compared to the 17Lber. One shotting the Maus through the front is also fun. Spaced armour isn’t fun though (The only reason I use the Cent 5/1 over the FV vs AA/Light vehicles that flank).
By fix. You mean they have to buff it.
Right… Right?
And the Hesh for the love of god
Yep, major buff. Or nerf APHE down to the same performance
Shoot and scoot? It’s too slow for that. 32 forward and 5 in reverse.
All opponents will know the weak spot is the hull. One APHE into the hull and it’s dead.
It’s barely better than a Centurion which, at 6.0, faces waaaaay easier opponents.
Tiger 2 is inferior to FV4202…
And this happens once in a blue moon. 4 out of 5 battles I get uptiered - often a full BR.
So in arcade it can face 8.3 and in GRB 8.0. Even light tanks from those BRs would have this for breakfast.
T2 is faster (forward and reverse), has more crew, better armor overall, and arguably a better gun with much higher post pen damage.
Only thing FV4202 has on the Tiger 2 is higher pen ability with APDS which does a LOT less damage.
Really don’t see how the stabilizer helps all that much when the tank is ridiculously slow. It has same speed at a FERDINAND, and the Ferdinand can actually reverse at the same speed the FV4202 moves forward.
Other than the pen ability, what does it do better than the T2?
Reload: VF4202. 1.3 seconds faster.
Ammo: VF4202. 214mm 60 degree, 381 flat.
Speed: Tiger 2.
Acceleration: FV4202. 13.8hp/t vs 10hp/t.
Stabilization: FV4202.
Armor: Tiger 2.
Acceleration is offset by the fact T2 has better top speed. For the first few seconds FV4202 will be ahead but the T2 WILL outpace it.
Crew : Tiger 2
Post-penetration damage: Tiger 2
Survivability of FV4202 is much less than that of Tiger 2, since it is quite vulnerable from all angles. Even SPAA (from almost any angle) will pose a risk to the FV4202.
FV4202 seems to have very specific conditions/environment where it’s advantages can come to bear - namely hills where it can go hull down to expose only the turret.
But - the cupola on top of the turret at 60mm is a glaring weak spot there.
Just don’t see the justification for rating this tank at 7.3/7.0
The BR rating of the FV4202 changed?
Or did you mean something else… like it’s fine when it’s the top-dog? But kinda sucks when it’s not?
This is what shoot and scoot means.
You drive up the hill enough to expose you turret barely long enough to fire - the stabilizer helps there massively - and immediately reverse off to hide your turret.
Hull down fighting isnt just sitting there with your turret exposed. It is driving up, taking a pot shot you have pre aimed at using a periscope or the commander binos and ditching the joint before the enemy can react to the muzzle flash.
There are some active combat footage showing it in practice (tank drives up, shoots and immediarely recerses and an atgm or some other finned projectile flies over its turret as it reverses).
And yes 5 km reverse does make it harder but the gun handling of the vehicles under and around 7.3 make it possible if you dont repeatedly do it in the same position (now there are only a few maps where you can reasonably reposition between shots, which is a bummer).
However the stabilizer is very powerful for such usage even with only a 5 km/h reverse speed.
It used to be at 7.0, until a lot of tanks around 7.0-8.0 got moved up about a year ago
Well that sucks. IMO it should have stayed at 7.0
Yeah, I pictured something more in the line of m18 for “shoot-and-scoot”. Makes a shot and gets out of dodge, repositioning well away from that shot.
And as mentioned, the opportunity for hull-down method does not present itself often enough on many maps.
Don’t get me started. I’ve probably got enough clips from tonight of questionable HESH performance on the Barn. Not behaving correctly. I mean, heck, I just straight up “non-penned” one tank. You’re not even meant to be able to do that! The whole point is you get spall from having a hilariously large TNT warhead go off on the side of your tank.
I can imagine, I would have to find the video but I had recorded an extract of a game where my hesh shell (from FV4005) bounced on the side of a BMP-1, it had driven me crazy
Personally I think it’s the other way around. Why is Centurion Mk 3 7.7 when the FV4202 is pretty much the same vehicle one BR below.
The Centurion Mk 3 has been power creeped from usefulness. Vehicles like the Centurion 5/1, Caernarvon, and Conqueror are just far superior.
So the Centurion Mk 3 should drop back to 7.3 so you can make a line up with the FV4202.
