Here’s a proposition for a decal for French aircrafts, named “Tourelle de navire” (litterally “Ship turret”). It was an insignia painted on the fuselage of the float-plane fighter “Loire 210” and the recon aircraft “Loire 130”, which both equipped the Battleships Dunkerque and Strasbourg between 1937 and 1942.
The official designation was Insigne “Tourelle de navire” for the HC-2 squadron (HC = Hydravion chasse, or “Floatplane fighter”) or HS-2 squadron (Hydravion Surveillance, or Patrol Floatplane) :
Although the insignia was adopted in 1937, it was removed from the Dunkerque in 1940, since after the attack of Mers El Kebir in 1940, the Dunkerque never carried floatplanes again.
