Yeah, back in the 2000s I tried joining both the Army and RAF, both shot me down over a very small amount of acne. RAF funnily enough shot me down for eyesight also for a job I applied for (at the time the role I wanted fell under WSO so eyesight was an issue, even though the job didnt really need you to have perfect vision, its changed since) and I will always remember on my “jobs you could do” having rock apes with the progression to further roles such as and I tell no lie, “sniper” lmao.
By the time my acne issues cleared up/my eyesight was stable enough, both forces had cut down heavily on the roles I wanted/were in the phase of eliminating them, being working with helicopters with the RAF and working with CVRT in the army so I moved on to other things (little would I know CVRT kept going untill like 2020).
There was a funny published study a little while ago on British Army recruitment because of all the cuts and pushing for reservists to do the job instead under the last government, given the lack of confirmed job likelyhood/internet explaining the army as a pretty poor job/min wage increases there was issues recruiting enough soldiers, while the army(capita recruiting) were turning away tens of thousands of applicants for very minor issues which could be fixed with even a few weeks of medication or a minor surgery.
Army, i was going to try the navy, but i when i heard they were changing i decided to wait. However i may give it another shot now that youve said that.
TL:DR: The UK Army lost 70% of candidates/applicants, and overall about half the Applicants across the Armed Forces who didn’t continue their application did so because the various recruitment processes took too long. The big problem with this, is of course, we’re losing more people than we’re taking in year on year, so cuts or not, our armed forces are getting smaller.
My wait time has so far been about 12+ months. To be fair, the next 3/4 months is unavoidable, and not really their fault, but still. My biggest worry is the Flying Training. Since, before Covid, there were some, shall we say, serious problems in MFTS, and I’ve no idea how much they’ve been fixed. Oh well…
It’s worth a shot, while I can’t speak for Ratings, Officer wait times, depending on how you do in selection, are somewhere in the region of a year or two. Ofc, Fast Track will be a whole lot faster than that, and Aircrew will be a lot slower (dependent on FATs) so just bear it in mind.
Anyway, how have we got to military recruitment from the Fox? lmao
nah, all good. we need all the bods we can get onboard. I dunno if you noticed but currently half our Amphibs are in reserve, on the basis we have no crew for them. Heh, would be a shame if we needed to evacuate British citizens from somewhere en masse… oh wait…
Your mistake was joining the RAF lmao. RN for the win.
The whole thing with an “unmotivated youth” well a) funny old thing most people don’t want to sell their life to a Government who doesn’t give a damn about them in civvie street, and b) usual scapegoating, it’s all our fault that we didn’t buy houses 30 years ago to avoid the market crashing down on us. Young people’s asks (a guarantee of an affordable, good house, reasonable taxation) are practically what everyone else asks, but somehow the Government thinks we’ve murdered their firstborn.
I cant see the need to discuss with someone who has the brilliance to say “Britain needs more skillful players”, while only playing the British vehicles that are deemed not shit.
Britain players are much happy when the stormer AD is added - it is not as good as the LAV-AD, roughly comparable to other 9.7 AA(except the sidam), but people were still very happy that something isnt unplayable is added.
