Hello!
I managed to debug why my Microsoft Forcefeedback 2 does not work correctly in the game.
One big problem with force feedback in this game has been that there is heavy centering spring force which is always on. Under this centering force there are occasional effects like when you are firing cannons of Me262 etc.
This centering spring force is not a game effect but the joystick’s built-in self center. Some joysticks have self center for games that do not have ffb implementation. (Eg MSFFB2)
I made a program that suppresses the self centering command directly from the MSFFB2 and that revealed that War Thunder indeed has built-in ffb effects. Bad effects but effects nevertheless. These effects are mostly muted against the self centering force of the stick.
I already made a bug report with explanation on how to likely fix the problem but a week has passed without it getting acknowledged so I’m thinking alternatives.
Is using port 8111 telemetry data for creating ffb effects okay? I vibecoded a program which takes telemetry data from port 8111 and creates effects according to speed, wingload etc. and feeds them to joystick. No game memory touching or similar is done. But I am still afraid of getting banned if I or someone else uses it. I tested it with quest login and it felt good.
I can share the source code and put the GitHub repo public for everyone to test/use if wanted. Tested for MSFFB2 only though.
TLDR: Is using port 8111 okay for creating ffb effects? Is there a risk for getting banned?
(If this was wrong place to post I am sorry, please point me to a correct place in this case.)
Sincerely: me
