For those of you who own the MiG-29 Sniper, could you share your experience with it?

I was really torn between buying the Russian top-tier naval pack and the Italian MiG-29 Sniper, and I ended up going with the MiG-29… mostly because I don’t have any plans to grind the Russian naval tree right now.

For those of you who own the MiG-29 Sniper, could you share your experience with it? My plan is that once I finish the event, I’ll sell at least two of the vehicles (keeping the Japanese ship on my account) to get another pack — and with that, I might go for the German top-tier naval pack.

Can you help me figure out if this was a good choice and if the jet is actually useful at 12.7 where it sits? I’ve never really played the MiG-29 before, since the Su-27/30 attract me more because of their agility and radars.

I dont own the sniper, but I’ve used the german mig 29g and the russian mig 29, and the jet itself is good from what i’ve heard, its an overall good jet as long as you play it right, the r73s are very usable missiles, and if you know the fox 1 tricks, you can get a sneak 27er kill at the beginning of the game, overall a good jet, i’ll add a video you should consider watching.

Thanks for the help, I’ll set aside some time to watch both videos so I can get a good idea of how to use them. I hope I didn’t rush into buying it, because I already had plans to grind Italy, since it has a wide variety of vehicles from different tiers of other nations.

not owner of Sniper, but only substantial difference to the TT ones is digital RWR.

R-27ERs are great, R-27ETs are great, but you have only 60x CMs launched in pairs, and R-60Ms…which means you have effectively two R27s.

“Maybe after I get used to the vehicle, I’ll be able to get 2 to 3 kills without taking too many risks? Or do you think the learning curve for the MiG-29 is much more complicated than the Su aircraft I’m already used to?

The mig should be easier to use, its smaller, lighter, and more responsive, although in dogfights, its not the best anymore due to the nerfs, but it can give a good fight.

Got it, I’ll actually test it after the event since I’m currently reaching the new vehicles from the last update on the Americans. And now with 3,000 Golden Eagles, I think I’ll wait for the next battle pass to see if it’s worth buying. And if a vehicle isn’t worth it, which Italian ground vehicle would you recommend for around 6,000 Golden Eagles?

I mean its entirely possible but if you reached Sukohis in russian TT you should be well familiar with performance of R-60s. I personally despise them, at 12.7 they are terrible.

Well you have much less missiles and R-60Ms are worse than R-73s so you have to show some trigger discipline. I know for certain that with MiG-29 I was never able to do missile jousting like id do in Su-33.

as for FM, comparing it to statshark charts of Sukhois I personally flew:

You should be golden.

Alright, thanks for the help. I’ll try to adapt the fighter to a safer strategy, just like I do with the F-15s. Maybe that’s a better option instead of trying something risky with the Italian MiG.

Ye.

Back when MiG-29 was the top dog, You couldve just be aggressive - R-27ERs won any missile joust bar F-14As (and with enough speed and alt even that wasnt sure, my record for longest BVR kill is on german MiG-29, landing R-27ER against Tomcat on Afghanistan at 60km) and R-60Ms were relatively evenly matched against 9Ls.

Nowadays, with Hornets, ARHs and what not running around?

Honestly, with better missiles at 12.7 in many other nations, it’s getting really hard to do a solo dogfight with another enemy without worrying about 2 or 3 missiles coming at you at the same time.

Even so, I think it can still be worth it. I say this because I’ve already gone through the same thing with the Su-30SM and Su-27SM, where I was constantly being interrupted by other fighters, but they still gave me opportunistic windows to escape some secondary engagements thanks to their low-speed maneuverability and high-thrust engines.

you dont have 27ETs on the sniper or any of the other 12.7 migs

I mean definetively, MiG-29 was fun plane and I do too think theres some enjoyment to be had with it. Moreso with Sniper which is outright upgrade over standard TT variants thanks to its RWR.

huh, youre right lol. Confused their loadout with 29G, my bad.

the MiG-29s at 12.7 arent great overall, but they arent bad either. Your primary weapons that are useful are the R-27ER1s on it best fox 1 in the game but a below average radar reduces the kill potency of the R-27ERs by a bit but is still very manageable. Your secondary weapons are the R-60Ms which are quite outclassed for their BR their low flare resistance in combination with the motors short burn time make their kill chance quite low at their BR.

You have good flight performance with the twin RD-33s making you quite fast but it drinks fuel fast so bring a full tank + drop tank if you fly low altitude the entire game. if you climb and get to higher altitudes you are able to save alot of fuel tho. Flight model is quite bad in this thing most things at your BR will out turn you and the MiG-29 bleeds energy quite fast when turning aswell.

Is there any effective way to get around these problems without turning the jet into a flying Maus ?

Also got a quite lot of downtiers against Snipers with my MKK. Safe to say, you dont want that to happen lol.
