For the love of god, how do you complete missions in Air SB?

Hey,

I just can not find any information about what to do to actually get useful actions.
Sure, I know I can shoot down things, but I am mostly asking about the air superiority mission (I just flew half an hour in a circle and the A blinked blue until “mission failed” appeared and I got literally nothing?) and how the hell I am supposed to catch up to enemy bombers?

Thank you so much if someone can answer my questions.

TYLY

The air superiority zones have to be capped to give activity time, but can “fail” as they have a time limit (which really should be displayed) even if being actively captured.

I tend to not bother with those zones unless needed and focus on other areas.

All other actions give activity time. Shooting down players or ai aircrsft. Killing ground targets. Killing naval targets. Bombing bases or airfields. Etc.

(I don’t think damaging naval targets does though)

But yeah, activity time overhaul/transparency would be good for SIM

Air superiority objective:

If you’re flying an early/mid war prop (top speed under 400-450 km/h) and you’re on a 128x128 map, I wouldn’t bother unless you were able to fly there right as it began and were less than 2 squares away. List of maps can be found on wiki’s “enduring confrontation.”

For 64x64 maps, they can be a lot of fun as they don’t expire by the time you drag yourself over there. However, you do need to absolutely kill every every enemy unless your team shows up in bulk.

Fun fact: you can park yourself in a permanent circling flight sitting in a 1 km tall cloud to grief the enemy on low pop servers :) (thanks, I hate it).

For bombers,

If you’re not in an afterburning supersonic jet, don’t bother on maps bigger than 64x64 km. I bug reported the 7.7-8.7 EC bracket on Denmark getting supersonic dolphin bombers and was told “not a bug.” I had to redline my f86a5 for a good 2-3 minutes to get within gun range (under 500 metersish).

Even in an afterburning supersonic jet, if it’s early vietnam like f8u/e, don’t bother if you’re farther than 60 km out on sth like Rocky canyon. I’ve flown to intercept a bomber group from about 80km out the moment they spawned and would’ve MAYBE caught them over the enemy airfield, but didnt want to risk it.

For props, stick to 64x64 maps and you’ll have fun. The objectives actually work and don’t expire and don’t break physics there.

I’ve read somewhere that apparently a.i bombers are programmed so that when they’re out of certain distance from players, they’re “on rails” and are made to cross a fixed amount of gridsquares in unit time. Bigger gridsquare = supersonic cl-13s.

Fritz! Engage the warp drive! (watch near the horizon top-left of my canopy. Follow the black dot as it literally teleports ahead.

There’s added nuance per map ( for example Denmark makes redfor bombers bug out and enter a permanent spiral over naval targets near jylland quite often IME), but rule of thumb is what I experienced above.
