Following the Roadmap: Voting to Test our Proposed APHE Shell Changes

and currently APHE shells have a completely mystical orb of death which never existed at all

It’s not a bug it works on purpose bruh

Just because some of you saw a reddit clip of a firefly doing nothing to the side of an IS2 doesn’t mean all AP shells are bad just because a mediocre nation doesnt do well with mediocre guns doesn’t mean all AP shells are bad, you getting nuked by an IS2 in your panther because you werent paying attention isnt aphes fault its your fault
Actually good AP shells fired from actually good cannons do quite well enough and have upsides over aphe shells

wouldn’t know about the firefly example, I don’t go to reddit

The IS-2 has overpressure on its shells, anyways, so the proposed APHE change wouldn’t even effect it.
Please do some reading up on game mechanics… Shells over a certain amount of HE filler instant kill crew regardless.

I already pointed out aphe overpressure in a previous post maybe you should do the reading friend

Why are you getting hung up on realism, its a game. Ingame tank crews will fight with 2 people left, which never happens irl, repair the entire tank in less than a minute, flip off cliffs without taking any damage. None of this ever existed but nobody has a problem with it. The increased damage of shells compared to irl is much needed to compensate for the increased survivability of tanks

Authenticity =/= Realism.
Mechanical things should behave the same ingame as in reality, APHE included and crew behavior not.
Gaijin has already stated they use reload time as a balancing factor.

I voted no because i heard of this nerf incoming months ago from a CC. Gaijin is nerfing every ammo type under the guise of insert whatever to lube it up.
Most ammo types are underperforming post pen, Gaijin never fixed any of it.

This game monetizes frustration. never forget that

because I’m not playing World of Tanks? War Thunder has time and time again stated their positive stance on realism

Even leaving realism aside;

Not just the head of the shell being more powerful.

Between these two buff effects that ARE coming and with no countervailing nerf because it’s been voted down, APHE just became significantly more of a nuke shell than it was.

The idea this won’t affect the balance in another way and shift BRs and balance around too, with the APHE tanks going UP now en masse, is just another example why most people had no idea what they were voting for here.

I don’t know anyone who would have said before today buffing APHE more relative to other shells would improve the gameplay. But that’s what was voted for.

yes or no isnt about the implementation, it’s about the test, dude.

Btw could we agree that this change will “make kills harder” → games with less reward → need extra

Honestly, I hope we get a compromise change, don’t remove cupola shooting but at the same time, no explosive shrapnel going backwards, Killing the driver with a turret shot to the front of a turret of a Sherman is very silly.

“Because I heard of a similar conspiracy theory from an influencer based on the fact that people have been asking for APHE to perform realistically for ages, this must mean it’s true!!!”

You are literally saying that the Tigers cupola was designed on purpose to be a weakspot.

Take a good look at this cupola shape:

In real life the shell will change the trajectory after hitting this area. Something like this:

The material will be more dense below, so the shell will simply start moving up.

But we don’t have this kind of advanced physics in War Thunder, so everything is simplified here.

I believe you’re looking at the wrong tiger :P
The one people refer to for cupola weakspots is generally the H1.

wont make kills harder just make them more tedious quite similar to when wot started removing weakspots on a large number of tanks and force the use of gold ammo right before making gold ammo do less damage making the game more tedious and lowering the skill cap as a result, this change is similar to what happened in wot in a way or two

Irl metal for the cupola would be much less good so nobody knows
