Following the Roadmap: Reducing Research/Purchase Cost of Aircraft, map changes & more

so where is the devblog about making naval grind massively worse? Somehow you forgot to brag about that. Adding new rank6 + needing to have X ships from several branches of rank5 purchased to unlock rank6 means huge grind increase.

And of course the absolutely most DISGUSTING greedy cashgrab move, now we have rank4 BR6.3 premium ships sold for 60$ that can’t effectively research 6.7 techtree ships because they’ll run face first into the 2 rank difference research penalty. The smallest possible BR difference game allows and you get slapped by 60% research penalty because Gaijin desperately needed to squeeze extra rank in so they can start selling 70$ premium battleships … mostly to bots.

I’ve seen Gaijin do some really greedy things over the years, but I didn’t expect to see something this bad.

Funny thing is that aircraft rank 7 can now cost 350k RP.

This must be a joke.

Your changes do not reflect an actual appreciation of the player-base’s attitude, which is that the grind is intolerable. Instead of implementing actual RP reductions across the board, you’ve spent the summer putting up smoke and mirrors to hide the fact that you aren’t actually going to do what you said you would in response to the player protests.

You’ve actually made the naval grind worse AND cast away the long-held promise to not sell top tier premiums. It seems as though you’ve coldly ignored what people got upset over and are taking yet another opportunity to make more money.

You’re compressing naval BRs even further, the exact opposite of what that mode DESPERATELY needed. Tank decompression was highly welcomed, but you’ve only done it in the middle-upper tiers, when even at low tiers there is a compression problem. Let’s not talk of the continued issues in Air RB where planes generally suffer in full uptiers, particularly the BRs where flare-less aircraft fight against all aspect missiles.

Some of these RP and SL changes barely amount to a 10% reduction. You haven’t done away with the “end of line” RP penalty.

There’s no mention of re-working CAS in ground battles. You moved drones up to 11.3, which is great - why not remove them? Why is CAS still so cheap in terms of SP?

Every time players got upset in the Reddit community I would caution them “wait until the next part of the roadmap, surely things will improve”.

We’ve waited for all the steps in the roadmap, and it seems like overtime you’ve decided to forget about the player backlash and return to business as usual.

If I wanted to be blatantly disrespected like this, I could pay a prostitute to insult me.

I do not understand why helicopters require the same ammount of RP as they used to. Their research by playing Ground Battles is great but their unchanged RP and SL requirements is not.

Also I believe that these helicopters should be foldered.

US
Rank V
UH-1 grouped with UH-1C

Germany

BO 105 PAH-1 grouped with BO 105 PAH-1A1

Soviet

In regards of tanks I believe Germany should have Leopard 2A6 out of group with 2A5. It is very different Leopard and PSO is more suited for being grouped with 2A5.

Looking at the British tech tree how Challengers are foldered I believe that US should folder the Abramses this way

M1 Abrams
IPM1

M1A1
M1A1 HC

M1A2
M1A2 SEP

I do not see reason why is M1A1 HC moved to other TT line.

This is an awesome step that moving forward, vehicle RP and purchase costs, as well as crew training costs will be reduced. But will players who already researched and purchased the vehicles and trained the crew get some kind of compensation now that the prices are lower?

Gaijin should be able to calculate the difference we would have saved if we unlocked and bought and trained the crew AFTER the update (vs before), and refund us the RP and SL right? Can Gaijin please make that happen? I have expert crew on all my vehicles and it would be really nice to be refunded for that.

Have you ever gotten a refund for anything anywhere (not just WT) just because you bought it before there was a sale or the prices dropped? Why would Gaijin even consider doing this?

Yes. Numerous times, to be honest. I suppose it might be different in other parts of the world, but in the US (where I live) it’s not at all uncommon for businesses to offer price-matching guarantees or lowest price guarantees, that sort of thing. They usually include some sort of time limit (i.e., if you find a lower price somewhere else within 30 days after the purchase, or if it goes on sale within 30 days from the date of purchase, they’ll refund you the difference), but I’ve made use of those guarantees more times than I can count over the years. And it’s not something every business offers, but a lot do.

I think, though, it’s something offered by companies with many competitors - they want to convince you to shop with them, rather than their competitors, so they offer these pricing guarantees. Gaijin/WT doesn’t really have competitors in the same way, so it’s not the least bit shocking that they don’t implement such policies.

That’s a whole different approach though. Especially since there are no competitors where you can find the same goods. Same as pre-order lowest-price guarantees are completely different situations.

Moreover, everything applicable here is bought with ingame currency that is available for free. So it is a very weird thing to ask Gaijin to get your game points back. Yes, you can also buy those game points with real money, but it’s not like their value has changed.

Lastly, there isn’t really a way to do this fairly for everyone. Where do you set the cut-off? Why would people getting certain tanks a 30 days ago get a refund and those getting them 31 days ago not? Why did people not get refund on previous price reduction, since this is the same as what happens every time a new rank releases? What should be done about people that would get RP refunded but can’t use them because they have the entire tree researched? What should be done about people that dont need those SL anymore bc they already earned them through playing and have nothing to spend them on?

IMO this is just a very selfish demand from a specific sub-set of people that want stuff for free and that can’t get implemented fairly.

The simulator games modes are in dire need for some attention from the devs, lots of balance issues, bugs and exploits that hasnt been fixed or even looked at for years.

How is it hard / unfair to implement? Gaijin can run a database query on every player’s unlocked vehicles and modifications, expert crew, and calculate the difference based on the new cost and old cost, and return that to the player. They have all the data. There’s nothing unfair about it, and they dont need players to send any data.

selfish request for a small subset of players

Any player who’s ever bought a vehicle, modification, or crew training is 99.9% of players. Unless youre telling me you only play stock reserves.

what are you pointing out here?

I literally gave an example of how it would be unfair: For players who already finished up research of the entire tech tree. Why would some people get a couple hundred thousand RP for free for their tech tree and others who already researched the whole thing dont get anything?

Small subset because it only means anything for specific players at specific tiers. Anyone below that or who finished up their grind aren’t affected. This isn’t a cost reduction for EVERY vehicle, only a handful of them.

I take it you grinded out a few tech trees to completion and think you have nothing to gain from this but trust me you do.

RP is only 1 side of the coin – there’s also silver lions for crew training and mods, which Gaijin has made cheaper by like 20-50% for high tier vehicles. More silver lions is good for everyone.

Furthermore, Gaijin remembers extra modification RP you earn after spading a vehicle. When Gaijin adds a new modification for a vehicle you already spaded, any RP you earned after spading it before will get applied to the new modification after your first battle in the vehicle after the update.

I haven’t maxed out any tech tree yet, but i imagine they do the same thing for vehicles. So it benefits those users you are describing too because when Gaijin adds a new vehicle for the nation, that extra RP they got returned from unlocking everything else is applied.

And since you mentioned small – I’m pretty sure the number of players who grinded out the entire tech tree of every nation and isnt in the process of grinding out the higher tiers of some nation right now is much smaller than those who have.

But I will agree with you – I wasn’t expecting Gaijin to give the players concessions without us asking for it.

I just wasnt expecting any player to say, “no it’s not fair for me to get refunded silver lions.”

I dont need any more silver lions either, since I expert crew’d pretty much every lineup I’m using too. Same for other people with several dozens to hundreds of millions of SL that waste them on the SL loot boxes bc there’s literally nothing else to do with it. And no, I dont need those extra SL for those lootboxes either, I’m not even wasting my time on that. Also, again, those general price reductions are only for air rank 6+7. Ground doesn’t have any SL reductions, just RP. So people playing mostly ground wouldn’t even profit from it.

And no, it neither remembers RP on a vehicle nor on a techtree, any RP you earn when you can’t spend it just vanishes. Sounds like you’re just an air player again, because there you can easily earn a modification on a single game, which could lead to your weird impression, I guess.

Yes, the people that grinded out entire techtrees are probably a smaller portion of the playerbase, but the majority of the playerbase hasn’t even reached hightier at all and wouldn’t gain anything from the refunds. Again, the RP+SL reductions are specifically only for air rank 6+7 (+a tiny bit in rank 8), and nothing else. Not ground in any rank, not naval in any rank, not air in ranks 1-5. For ground it is only RP for foldered vehicles, which gaijin said themselves, get ignored most of the time.

Exactly - i bought 700 ice cream buckets/spoons last round - looking for a rare plane …and got 3 useless vehicles in return…but i expected this result…

Well, Karelia is now BROKEN. The north team can now fire directly into the south team’s western spawn from the other side of the map.

How about a new table with summarized changes which splits the “reduction” into categories:

  • reduction due to foldering
  • reduction due to rank change
  • reduction with no change in foldering or rank
  • increase
