I always see that there’s the combat configuration for flaps, but in what situations should I use them in?
when you need to turn faster
It depends on the circumstances. To adegree. The game and BR level.
In my GRB I game imagine they are air brakes,to suddenly slow you down and give a sharper turn.
You can throw them on and off quick without ripping them off the wing at speed. That is the theory anyway.
I am a poor CAS man in GRB and I only really use them for landings and take off.
I may use them for diving in on a tank at a steep angle in some planes to slow me and give more firing time which of course opens me up to AA.
In air games I do try to use them when I have somebody on my tail.Throw on the flaps and sharp turn ,see if they overshoot me.
Hopefully you will get advice from better flyers than me.
very helpful
yeah i use them in ab but i dont in rb cause i’m always to fast :(
Adding to Wick’s links of Defyn,
This video should help one understand why bf109s love to drop landing flaps after going vertical.
I mean technically seen the correct wording would be “tighter” and not “faster” as flaps increase drag and slows the plane down. So you trade speed vs a tighter turn.
If the guy behind you performs a high yo-yo:
You are back at square one but you lost speed…
i use flaps only if i need little more turning to shoot down one plane but i prefer speed…
DEFYN’s videos have been invaluable, I wish I had his defensive skills.
Like him too. We have a common sense of humor. Even if you played aircraft for >20 years there is always something interesting in his vids.
The only thing what hurts me watching his vids is his usage of MnK in an aircraft (and instructor) - even if it’s appropriate for Air RB this is for me an immersion killer and a no-go for any virtual pilot.
Without the artificial stabilization of mouse aim we would see way less (more or less successful) head-ons and “newer” players would be forced to learn ACM…so they just point & click…
But i acknowledge we would also have way less players without mouse aim and much less content.
Have a good one!
