What’s the video supposed to show?
An enemy got to the corner and opened fire fractions of a second before you could finish reloading. Had it been a Tiger II or a T-44-100 you would have been dead just the same.

classic autocannon APHE moment
Also woth Coelian going up in BR air targets got A LOT more difficult to hit.
Can you check what hit analysis shows?
I vaguely remember M103 having an (several tbf) armour hole around that area but kill-cam sometimes displays a non-killing shell as the one that took you out so it might be worth to check.
If there is none and FlakPz 341 can just pen that normally then this instance is probably well outlined by what someone else said above - you got shot first and it doesnt really matter which tank takes that opportunity, if they get that advantage in a fight, then you cant really expect to survive .
It’s a shame we can’t load the 341 into hit analysis for the M103.
But I could find nothing remotely similar that would pen what is the weakest part at the front - the 127mm turret ring.
I really don’t see any logical way a gun with - AT BEST - 83mm pen - can do that damage to an M103 from the front.
It’s bad enough that heavy tanks can be easily crippled by shooting the barrels, but adding ability of modest-sized autocannons to pen the front of a heavy tank with decently thick, sloped armor like it has, is just silly.
The shot trap.
M103 has a horribly constructed gun mantlet. I always autocannon the spot below the gun and its prettey consistently that at least one shot gets deflected downwards into the chassis. There is almost no armor.
It also works with Panthers. I often encounter the TV or the french one. Even 50mm pen autocannon from Ostwind easily kills them, when you fire a salvo below the gun. There are also more tanks like this.
Its just game mechanic. Shot traps are the thing and there’s no reason to make another crybaby thread out of it. Older players simply know these features and you’re dead in a blink of an eye. (You can’t replicate this @ armor viewer).
Well gaijin franked the pooch on multiple levels here with that “game mechanic”.
Why play a slower, heavier tank when you can be “dead in the blink of an eye”?
You wouldn’t happen to have a 341, and use it a lot, would you? I mean, there’s no bias from you when you use the term “crybaby”, right?
You don’t lol. WT Ground RB meta is totally against heavy tank use.
(Except these few which really have an edge on their BR range. Like KV-1, I should add.)
Sorry but that sounds like skill issue
only the KV-1 ZiS-5 is a pain to deal with
Sometimes I do this even with the 128mm of the Jagdtiger (if the M103 is hull down and the turret is not at an angle where I can overmatch the roof). I even have a video of the kill cam sequence somewhere. The mantlet deflects the shell downwards into the roof of the hull, and everyone dies.
The IS-3 is another example. Technically the pre-series Tiger II too.
Shot traps were a problem IRL too. There’s a reason the Panther G went from a hemispherical mantlet to a chin mantlet!
Why? You’re a heavy tank but you’re not immortal!
That M103 was in the open with no cover. If a Tiger II had pushed the corner while the guy was reloading, he could have shot LFP and still killed him. What changes?
I don’t understand this logic. This is WT, everything can die in one hit if the shot (or bomb, rocket, arty, sea mine) is well placed. Heavies give you situational armour that will save you from poorly aimed shots, which means the opponent has to take time to aim, crucial time you can use to your advantage. They don’t make you immortal.
I don’t have it, and I still see no problem with the video that was posted. Reloading M103 sitting in the open is simply in a vulnerable situation to many of the opponents it could face at its BR.
This is my last session with German 6.7 (mostly played at 7.0 because a friend of mine had the Jabo in his lineup):
Since early October, I’ve been playing the 6.7 lineup a lot (again mostly at 7.0 for various reasons) so we have a larger sample of matches to look at:
Vehicles seem to be doing just fine to me.
