First Generation Harriers - significantly worse flight performance and capabilities, due to gross mis-modeling from Gaijin Devs

just had a game in which i recieved a r60m up my rear despite maneuvering and popping 20 flares

i have no desire to play them after this, no other jet gets shafted like the harriers do

Yep, If you are slow ISH, then nothing is flarable. Only thing you can do is throttle down to idle at the same time. Ideally you need to keep your speed up above 500kts

lol yes, I just can’t get fully back into war thunder because of it tbh.

The IR issue isn’t even something we can directly make bug reports about so ultimately it’s just up to whatever gaijin likes.

The soot from the engine really drives me up the wall too.

Ohh and I felt like taking some rockets the other day in the Shar to hit some light ground targets, only to realize after trying to activate the rockets ccip that gaijin didn’t give the Shar hud a rocket sight.

Every time I play it’s just disappointing lol.

Especially so when I get into a dogfight with a MiG-21 and the fight gets low and slow and he manages to get his nose on me because he can pull 30+ degrees aoa and I’m hard capped at 21 for some stupid reason….

what the hell lmao, how does this even happen

They didn’t give it a working gunsight either.

It’s just not a priority of gaijins to model the harriers correctly, they are old and they have had their heyday so they are just second rate jets that hardly anyone plays now.

have yall tried cutting throttle after and while popping flares? works well for me in the AV-8A especially with periodic CM on

The issue is more that the harrier is unusually more prone to having its flares ignored whether the throttle is high or low compared to other similar 60s-90s fighters, comedically the opposite compared to irl where the RR Pegasus had a reputation for being colder - even if factoring out that it didn’t have an afterburner.

Besides, the AV-8A is just about the best case scenario being the GR.1 type harriers with lower thrust engines (since Gaijin made the unusual decision to base IR sig on thrust and not irl values) and plentiful CMs, at a BR with lower performing IR missiles.

Not just IR missiles nowadays too, the presence of IRSTs makes things rough.

If you look at a Harrier through Flir it glows like a Christmas tree.

Most, if not all, vehicles do even when they have had their engines turned off for a while after landing.

Airtightly lol.

With the next major here its sad to see that the performance still has not been fixed.
Harrier 1 incorrect Instantaneous Turn rate // Gaijin.net // Issues
Harrier missing extreme amounts of AOA and low speed control // Gaijin.net // Issues

Which of out of the harrier ones and harrier 2 have better flight performance?

Also is the British harrier with AMRAAMs and 9m/asraam harrier one or 2.

IDK but probably a harrier II

The Sea Harrier FA2 has the best engine out of all the Harrier 1s and so would naturally be the best in terms of flight performance.

The Harrier T10, AV-8B+ and I think the AV-8B(NA) have the better engines at the moment for the Harrier 2s. Only the Gr7 has a slightly weaker engine at the moment. So any of those 3 are pretty close, with the T10 having the most drag.

After that, its a matter of loadout (and personal preference regarding the guns) more than flight performance.

The Sea Harrier FA2 is a Harrier 1. They were all (i think) just FRS1s that were upgraded with the new radar, engine, etc.
