Finnish (Swed) Mig-21 should get bombs

According to the game’s loadout arrangement, it is completely reasonable for the Swedish (Finland) Mig-21 to get ZB-500 and other bomb options for people who are interested in CAS gaming methods.

These loadouts are based on the fact that these planes mounted them (or could mount them) when used by similar variants/other nations.

For some, JSDF did not had BLU-27/B (?) but F-15J is seen flying with them.

F-5C did not had flares, but in game has them

I doubt A-10C in 2007 had Aim-9L from mid 1970s.

Maybe you should just play planes that suit base bombing… rather than demanding every plane be turned into a base bomber.

If something can exist that can offer an alternative playstlye, why not? I don’t care if it is ‘useless’ because you might as well disable shooting bullets in the sky because it serves no purpose.

There are also players who may want to use mig 21 for CAS purposes.

Finland was not allowed to mount bombs on their aircraft and had them removed from the vehicle on the 2nd dev server iirc. Which is strange given this wasn’t the F-18C where the computers were missing. The Mig 21’s could carry them but do to their treaty they didn’t. Regardless all not having bombs does is extend the RP required to get your core mods. Ive been to a few Museums with their aircraft and the only different Mig 21 Finland had would be the Mig 21 MGBT

Finland was unders strict military purchase restrictions during the cold war, one being that Fighters had to be Fighters so no bombs on the Mig-21.

It also meant they had to order additional MiG-21U two seaters as purchasing additional fast jet trainers would have eaten in to the fighter allocations.

Another change forced on them was to design and use their own reconnaissance pods on the MiG-21F instead of buying a MiG-21R subvariant. Six bis airframes were also later modified for the role.

Gaijin Could add bombs, even if its just a basic pair, but as their lack was a result of their operational restictions rather than simply an unused option its unlikely.

Only bomber planes with intenal bays were banned, not the bombs themselves as treaty text states:

Treaties of peace with Italy, Bulgaria, Hungary, Roumania, and Finland no.21 1947, Part III, Article 13(c):
“An air force, including any naval air arm, of 60 aircraft, including reserves, with a total personnel strength of 3,000. Finland shall not possess or acquire any aircraft designed primarily as bombers with internal bombcarrying facilities.”

Few Bristol Blenheim’s and Il-28’s were allowed as they were converted to Target Tugs and Photo-Recon planes.

Only outright weapon bans are in later article 17:
“Finland shall not possess, construct or experiment with any atomic weapon, any self-propelled or guided missiles or apparatus connected with their discharge (other than torpedoes and torpedo launcing gear comprising the normal armament of naval vessels permitted by the present Treaty), sea mines or torpedoes of non-contact types actuated by influence mechanisms, torpedoes capable of being manned, submarines, or other submersible craft, motor torpedo boats, or specialised types of assault craft.”

To those unaware, the guided missile ban was removed in 1960’s after several US spyplanes ran away from Mig’s using Finnish airspace, rest were abolished during the fall of Soviet Union.

Giggles aside, Finnish Mig 21bis can definetly benefit from extra CAS options.

However, given the playstyle you usually practice on fighters, I am not speaking of napalm bombs.

What I mean are dumb bombs and S-24 rockets which would improve this plane’s experience in GRB (I like CAS by fighters, but not napalm bombing bases in them) as Sweden has fairly nice 10.3-10.7 line up for that.

And as a side note: not all planes of the same familly and type can use weaponry of one another. For example, Japanese F-4EJ cannot mount AGM-12/65s or GBU-8/15s because FCS for these armament options was removed. IIRC Finnish one remained its [FCS], but it’s just to clarify why sonetimes some armament cannot be added, not because devs don’t want to but because it was physically impossible to do so.

Imo id much rather see the Mig 21 become the MGBT since its more unique

Both are fine at their job and they should both stay and end up being 11.0 (ARB) with a couple of differences.

One foldered with another or vice versa. Just… not event/premium, because Finland already has most of its more unique designs locked behind paywall/event.

Imo if they would keep them id be fine with them being Foldered, the MGBT is imo a better jet, no Radar but you get Selenia RWR, Selenia SL/ALQ-234 jammer pod, Philips 9CM120X chaff dispencer pod and the ability to carry Aim 9E’s (yes redundant but historically accurate.

Yeah right, We all know you want napalm so you can turn our Mig-21 into a zomber, we’ve seen your previous posts about base bombing, my suspicions are that you will use napalm simply for that purpose, and I must object on both historical (soviets stopped our air force from using air-dropped ordinance following negotiations at the end of ww2) and simply from a gameplay perspective, the more fighters with access to bombs, the further Air RB goes down the drain

Besides not like sweden is lacking a 10.x bomber, so the Mig 21 is kinda meh for that, now if we could get the early F 35 too and have it be 9.x that would be amazing.

Hopefully they just modify the in game BIS to be a bit more like our modified version, I’m always pro-unique change and this would be a good (and local xD) modification to implement

God i need the correct XS with its accurate arms and it would be so cool. It is such a shame Finland is ignored to just add copy and paste instead of the super unique stuff.

We used some other american missile on the drakens besides the 9Js, and iirc added R-13M to a few of them also

R13M1’s only could be mounted to the outermost pylons so you could have a loadout of 2x R13M1’s, and 4x RB24J, or 4x RB 27/28 or have a split of 2x RB 27/28 and have the R13M1’s
