In real life, Finland’s F‑18C Hornets underwent two major Mid-Life Upgrades: MLU‑1 (2006–2010) enhanced air-to-air capabilities, integrating AIM‑9X and helmet-mounted cueing.

Then MLU‑2 (2012–2016) expanded their air-to-ground arsenal, adding GPS/INS-guided standoff munitions such as JDAM, JSOW (AGM‑154), and JASSM (AGM‑158) with Link‑16 connectivity and targeting pods. Finland also received U.S. State Department approval in November 2022 for the acquisition of 48 AGM‑154 JSOW and 40 AIM‑9X Block II missiles, confirming their real-world integration

The AGM‑154 JSOW is a GPS/INS‑guided glide bomb with a range up to 70 nmi from high altitude, capable of deploying submunitions or unitary warheads on fixed and relocatable targets fire-and-forget standoff strikes without needing post-launch updates.

Finland’s Hornets never used AIM‑9L or AIM‑9M; AIM‑9X was their first IR Sidewinder.

Ahh yes. But guess what. They are all U.S weapons. The U.S doesn’t even have these weapons yet. Where are the BOL pods for the American jets tho?

YEah they are US weapons, but just why they place something in game, what never had those 9m or L’s …

Because then people would cry for not getting a better F/A-18. Do i have to remind you of the countless franken-planes we have in the game purely for balance or just dev laziness

This isnt a requirement for adding a weapon to an airframe. so long as the airframe was capable of equipping them, the finish airforce not using it doesnt matter

Its a weird requirement but perhaps itll change in the future when all missiles are added.

Guess what? Russian air force never used R-77s, they used R-77-1 so all R-77s need to be replaced with -1s too!

Cause AIM-9Ns should be the F-18C’s only IR weapon? Or no IR weapons at all?
9Ms are a historical loadout to all F-18s, all of them, without exception.
Just because you dislike that loadout for some perceived air force does not make the previously stated fact any less true.

Actually you just shot yourself in leg on that argument stating every F18 historical loadout is 9m.
Like that would surprise anyone.
If you start speaking historically accurate loadout, it might be accurate on USA version F/A18’s, dont know about swiss, but in pure historically accurate perspective Finland never had F-18 or F/A-18 with 9m’s They had it with 9X.
Just because some airfcraft can use “lower” grade weapons and some airforces have used em , doesnt make it historically accurate on every countrys version of it. End of that story about historically accurate :D

And that upgraded version just went from Basic aim 9X to aim 9X block II

F-18 AAMs compatibility does not change based on where it is in the world.
That’s not how manufacturing and electronics work.
