FIAT 666N Blindato

History.

In 1943 in Piacenza the Royal Army Arsenal of Piacenza, renamed the Arsenal of Piacenza, was used by the RSI forces for the production and repair of artillery pieces. Just under a year later the Arsenal undertook to armor various trucks for the units present in anti-partisan functions, and among the armored vehicles one of them was a FIAT 666N truck for civilian use seized after entering the war in 1940 The improvised armored car was used until 1945 when the armistice occurred and the vehicle was requisitioned by the Allied units.

Armaments and propulsion.

The main armament of the FIAT 666N Armored was an automatic anti-aircraft gun Cannone-Mitragliera Scotti-Isotta-Fraschini 20/70 Model 1939, placed in an armored turret, i.e. the same anti-aircraft/anti-tank gun used in the M15/42 Contraereo tank, except that this could be fed from tapes, plates or from a 41-round drum magazine. The possible presence of secondary armament was unknown, however it is possible that some Breda Mod.37 or Mod.37 machine guns firing from the side slits were mounted.
Propulsion was entrusted to a FIAT Tipo 366 6-cylinder in-line diesel engine. The maximum power output of the engine was limited to 95 HP at 1,700 rpm. The maximum road speed was 57 km/h. Fuel was stored in a 255-litre tank located on the right side of the chassis, which offered an on-road range of 465km.
