Hello everyone, and welcome to this new suggestion.

Today, I’d like to introduce a recent class of French naval vessels: the Félix Éboué-class Overseas Patrol Vessels (POM). To begin this series, here is the Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai (P780), one of the newest patrol ships currently serving with the French Navy in the Pacific.

The Patrouilleurs Outre-Mer (POM) program was launched by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces to renew and modernize the fleet assigned to France’s overseas territories. These territories, particularly in the Pacific, and Indian Ocean, cover enormous maritime zones that require a permanent naval presence.

For decades, these missions were carried out by the aging P400-class patrol boats, vessels that had become increasingly outdated for modern operational requirements. The POM program was therefore created to provide France with a new generation of patrol ships better adapted to present-day missions: maritime surveillance, sovereignty enforcement, fisheries protection, anti-trafficking operations, search and rescue, and disaster response.

The Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai is the second ship of the Félix Éboué class. Built in mainland France, the vessel began its journey toward French Polynesia in early 2024 after departing from Brest.Rather than taking a direct route through the Panama Canal, the ship sailed via Cape Horn, crossing the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans during a particularly demanding transit voyage. After several months at sea, the vessel finally arrived in Papeete, where it is now permanently stationed. Its official commissioning into active service took place in July 2024.

The Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai was specifically designed for operations across the immense maritime spaces of the Pacific Ocean. French Polynesia alone represents an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of several million square kilometers. The ship is capable of conducting long patrols far from its home port without immediate support. Its modern sensors and communication systems allow it to monitor maritime traffic, coordinate with civilian authorities, and participate in multinational operations when required. Although the vessel is only lightly armed compared to frontline combat ships, its armament is fully suited to the missions it is expected to perform. The ship is primarily intended to deal with low-intensity threats such as illegal fishing, smuggling, piracy-related activities, or unauthorized incursions into French territorial waters.

Since entering service, the vessel has already demonstrated its long-range operational capabilities through deployments to remote areas such as Clipperton Island. It also participated in larger multinational exercises and operations, including Operation Aquarius 25.

The ship is named after Teriieroo a Teriierooiterai, originally from Thaitie, district chief of the area during the Second World War, he joined the Free French forces and took part in the rallying of the French islands of Oceania.

The ships of this class, although very similar to the ships of the PAG La Confiance class, are indeed different.

Characteristics

Length : 80.00 m

Width : 12.00 m

Draft : 3.50 m

The vessel is powered by a hybrid diesel-electric engine, allowing it to reach a top speed of 24 knots. Its range is 5,500 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots, enabling it to navigate the vast areas of the French Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs).

The crew is relatively small, consisting exclusively of 30 sailors. However, the vessel has 23 additional berths.

Equipment
  • Kelvin Hugues Mk11 SharpEye surveillance radar
  • Lyncea combat system
  • Day/night optical sensor

In addition, the ship can carry one or two Airbus Aliaca vertical takeoff drones; this lightweight drone can carry a 2-kilogram payload and allows the ship to perform advanced reconnaissance.

Weapons

The ship’s armament is relatively light, consisting of small-caliber weapons allowing it to engage the various targets it may encounter during its missions. These include:

  • 1 x 20 mm Narwhal-20B (the 20 mm remotely operated turret in the front allows targeting targets at long distances with a wide range of ammunition, the gun used is the Giat M693)
  • 2 x 12.7 mm machine guns
  • 2 x 7.62 mm machine guns

In-game, this ship would be an interesting addition to the French tech tree, providing a modern but lightly armed vessel capable of engaging all types of targets, thus making it a worthwhile addition.
